Is my avatar showing?
« on: 22 February 2012, 06:41:28 AM »
For some reason my avatar is only showing the top quarter to me - is this the case for everyone else?
It looks ok in my account profile, so thought it might be just some graphics glitch I'm encountering.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Very odd. Have rebooted and logged in/out lots of times - some of the avatar has come back - bottom half just missing now - just my laptop doing weird things then

Thanks Kev

It's definately with my lappy as I'm now sitting here on the computer at work, and it's showing in its entirety. Could be Firefox I suppose - the work machine is using the awful Internet Explorer  :-\

Just to check, we see the silhouette of a moose (?) against a dark sky, trees, the full moon shows SAAB, and along the bottom it has TRENCHFOOT in yellow against a black background.

Very tasteful.

never seen a moose with trenchfoot - but then I've never seen a moose close enough to ask it?

How did you end up with that Mark?

What you see is correct. Initially I was getting only the top quarter of the image showing. Now its all there except for the bit with "Trenchfoot" at the bottom. I can't work out why this is and have even updated graphics card drivers and Firefox but its the same. If I use I.E. there is no problem - guess it's a Firefox thing but don't know why. It's certainly not to do with my account.

The Moose standing in a forest clearing was derived when I was out in the Middle East last summer and was trying to keep busy doing stuff. I found the moon image with 'SAAB' on it, and worked it from there. The Moose part was to try and evoke a Scandinavian image.

The name Trenchfoot comes from when I was doing online games and was involved with a game called 'Operation Flashpoint' - a lot of fun but a total waste of time really!
Trenchfoot was my call-sign. I still use the name in other forums as well.
If you can imagine a virtual paintball game set in the 1980's when the Soviet empire was breaking up, on several small islands each taking you a good couple of hours to drive around in a virtual jeep, and instead of paintballs you were using Kalashnikov  rifles, sniper weapons, grenades, tanks, and artillery you'll get the picture.
With a team of twelve or so, you would have to capture the flag in the enemy village and get it back to your own village and onto your own flagpole to get points. The opposing team are trying to do the same thing. If you got killed you would go back to a starting point, and carry on. Everybody in your team is on voice comms, and it really was a case of teamwork and planning to achieve your objectives.

Oh no - not 'Operation Flashpoint'. My sons played for hours on that on my PC in the evenings and I had to tear them away so I could do work!

Now at 22 and 24 its Call Of Duty MW3 or whatever else on XBox360 playing online against someone somewhere in the universe - I walk in to find them giving orders to other team players through headset..........drives me round the twist untill they challenge me to a go at Forza Motorsport :)

Nice to see though that you used your downtime to good use designing your avatar :)

Flashpoint was a great game.
To some extent, the field craft that I learned during my time in the armed forces was implemented and worked quite well!

The avatar was created in an hour or so one afternoon, There are others I made but I liked this one the best so stuck with it ever since.

Incidentally, the avatar is now appearing correctly (to me). I achieved this by opening Firefox and from the menu choosing Tools/Clear Recent History. putting a tick in all the boxes and clearing 'everything' out; cookies. cache. active logins, Browsing and download history and its fixed. I knew it would be something simple. I hate it when things aren't working properly  ::)
