Thanks Chris.  I have no objection.  How did you evaluate the garages? How do you upgrade the list?

There are some well known ones that are missing.

I have used http://www.jpautosbristol.co.uk and found them to be very good.

Others that I know about, but not used, but have heard nothing bad, are

Thanks, Will.

When members freely recommend a garage or specialist with their OWN, genuine experiences, and how pleased they were with the service helpfulness and expertese, they are added. Those to the quantrary do not get added. I double check with other more general reviews on the web from the public. I also request updates from members.

The map has proven so useful to many, whether they be on holiday, or simply stranded in the middle of nowhere, or in need of finding a trusted garage or services to Saab, local to them, quickly - by saving the link to their device.

Thanks for your suggestions - added to the map.

All should qualify.  They are all really independents now.

There are no "Main Dealers" as such now, just the "Saab Approved Service Agents". In essence this appears to be much the same, but there is a major difference.  In the days of the Main Dealer, the staff went on training courses and knew the cars that they were working on.  The "Saab Approved" scheme managed by Orio/Saab UK does no assessment of technical competence before the title is awarded.  I have been told that the only checks carried out are for VAT registration and that their bank references are good enough for Orio to allow them to buy parts and pay monthly in arrears.

A lot of the old "independents" are now "Saab Approved".  For example, Saab Centre Milton Keynes and SaabTech Welwyn. They are both on Chris' list.

That's what I thought so allow me to suggest Alexanders in Thornaby

https://www.alexandersmotorgroup.co.uk/saab-servicing

They've looked after my Saabs since my first one in 1992 and some of the technicians come from that era. Should fill in a bit of a void on the map.

Interesting about Saabtech Welwyn. I bought some carpets from them recently, via ebay, and thought they were an ex-main dealer. I was a bit disappointed in the carpets, genuine with the GM hologram etc, but the quality doesn't seem as good as my original mats, no Saab logo and a different backing which I suspect is more slippy. Still, for what I paid, they will probably work well enough and better than noting for the green car.

Saabtech Welwyn used to be Saabtech in Stevenage.  When the old main dealer in Welwyn, Squire Furneaux, decided to sell up, Saabtech moved down the road into their premises.  They, like others, are broadening their range and have opened Saabtech Mini on the adjacent site.  Sadly Saabtech seem to have become more “corporate” recently and the new service manager keeps the customers away from the mechanics working on the cars. Not as informal as before, and didn’t deal with a post repair problem to my satisfaction. My complaint didn’t get an apology, just standard email replies from an admin person.

The parts department is run as a separate company by a former employee of Reading Saab, they have quite a few bargains on their eBay shop.

My local former Saab main dealer Viking Saab, is just down the road.  They were taken over by a local garage group, Spire, and became a Seat dealer.  There is a sign around the side saying “Spire Saab” and they are an approved Saab agent.  But I don’t go there any more.  Too many mistakes, and all the Saab men seem to have left.

My suggestion was for Alexanders who are in Thornaby on Teesside, north north Yorkshire.

I believe they also have a branch in York, but I've never been there.

I don't know about Saabtech if that who you are asking about.
