New key won't pair with the car.
« on: 18 July 2019, 01:57:32 PM »
I've got a new key for the 9-5.  SWMBO has lost hers...

The key has been paired to the car with Tech2 and it works.  The key turns and the car starts.

But I can't get the remote to synchronise.  The key battery is at 2.95v, so that should be OK.  WIS says to press the unlock button 4 or 5 times to synchronise.  I've done this.  Another part of WIS says press any button 4 or 5 times to synchronise.  I've done them all.  I've tried fast presses. I've tried slow presses.  Still no good.  As a last resort I paired the keys to the car again, but the situation is unchanged.

The original key is working as before, bith starting the car and as a remote.

The car shows "1 Remote, 2 Transpondr" on SID when I check.

Any help appreciated.

sgould will know the answer to this. Oh, wait ...  :)

Sorry not to be able to help Will. That sounds frustrating beyond belief.

I had a similar problem with my grey Aero, the remote unlocking wasn't very remote. I messed about with various bits and in the end I put some new batteries in.

It still didn't work, but after pressing the unlock a few times it started to work again, and remote unlocking was remote again.

2.95v isn't enough. I just tested a new call and that was 3.3v

Thanks.

I'll try a new battery.  I looked yesterday but CR1632 is no longer a size stocked locally by any of the supermarkets whic I searched yesterday evening. I may have to buy on line.  I kept a spare but I can't find it when I need it ::)

My other half gets batteries for me - best source are the "bargain shops" Wilko, Home Bargains, £1 shop type places I think, and thats the price she pays

It's late night shopping tonight. And SWMBO will be going singing at the open mic night in the pub and I'm the chauffeur.  She will be going a bit early tonight... :)

No one had a CR1632.  So I fitted a CR1620 3v and bent the contacts up a bit. Battery is securely in place. Still nothing happening... :(

Oh, that's a shame.

Could the new key be faulty ?

Have you tried the boot release as well, even try with the key in the ignition and engine running

What you need is a local crim who can check the transmitter function for your key  ::)

I'm beginning to suspect a faulty key.  Someone has suggested that Saab may have sent the transmitter for the USA 315 frequency instead of 433 for the UK.  There's no real ID on the chip.

A couple of links:

1620 battery not really suitable

http://saabworld.net/showthread.php?t=1318&page=2

Final post - the poster said that his information was 2 remotes, 2 transponders on SID. His issue was the stuck barrel

https://www.saabscene.com/forum/threads/219305-9-5-Key-fob-remote-problem

I seem to remember pressing both keys in turn on mine at one point, and then they both started to play nicely

I don't think that the second scenario is what I have.  The other key works perfectly.  I'll try the smaller battery up close tomorrow and see what happens. A couple of proper batteries have been ordered on the internet for arrival early next week.

I tried searching the web for things like that but couldn't find that.  I think my search criteria are restricted a bit too much.  I'll have to go back to Google and give up the one that says that it doesn't track your searches.  It seems to favour Amazon sales above all else, whatever search terms you put in.

My point on that second post was that his SID said 2 + 2, yours says 1 + 2

If it is a transponder frequency issue I doubt you'll find another thread on that  ;)

As I read mine, it mirrors what I am finding.

I have two keys.  The original still works fine, so that's "1 remote and 1 transponder".  The new key only works in the ignition and starts the car, but won't lock the doors; so that's "0 remote and 1 transponder".  Added together that makes the message I see.  Therefore I'm seeing that the new remote is not synching with the car.  The frequency is not that of the immobiliser/transponder, it's the radio frequency of the remote.  There is 433 for the UK and Europe and 315 for USA/Canada/Japan/Korea, etc.  I can't remember it it's KHz or MHz, or something else!! :)

Not exactly helpful for your predicament Will, but if you have a remote (car, TV etc)  with an infa red (or similar) light and you want to check if it is working, use a digital camera or your phone camera to view it. Cameras pick up a wider spectrum, so it will show up.

Do you still have a cassette recorder Will ?

Youtube I know..... but ideas for you to pursue. I'm sure there's a spectrum analyser app somewhere you could use
