Whats the general feeling here with these.
Mine I just cannot figure out if its making the infamous whine.
It isnt slipping, it engages all gears fine and doesnt pop out of any gears, and doesnt 'crunch'.

Im swaying towards clutch release as its 'noisy' on braking and depressing clutch.

If it is the Pinion bearing is it easier to buy a s/hand box?.

Being fairly competent around a car and having a dry unit with engine crane etc it would be possible for me to do this - would you do it? what would a specialist in NW england sort of charge on the otherhand?.

Cheers
Mike

The risk of a secondhand box is that it's no better than the one you have.

Are you saying that the noise happen on braking without you touching the clutch?  If so, I would look at engine mountings or something similar.

I wouldn't bother with a second hand box until the one you have breaks, quite simply most of them have been in and out of so many cars and rebuilt so many times that with many of these boxes you just don't know what you're getting. If you want it done properly find a specialist who can do a proper rebuild.

If anything I'd get a specialist to give an opinion now on the noise rather than start pointing at things and thinking about replacing them.

Yes it does all mountings are fine, im just not convinced it fits the infamous pinion bearing senario?

It seems to be more promenent in 4th/5th obver 50mph a little louder underbraking whilst depressing the clutch?.
