Can anyone recommend a good carpet cleaner to bring those carpets and mats back to pristine condition, and rid the car of those stale smells?

1001.

Best to remove carpets first as you can never get them really clean, or smell free, if left in the car. You will be amazed who dirty they get.

There are Saab guys that swear by some stuff called Virosol

I've kept it mind, but I've not used it myself (yet)

It may be mainly the mats. They look like they could do with going in the washing machine :0

You can buy a brand new set of genuine Saab mats for £40 on ebay.

I use a wet/dry vacuum and wash the mats with my VAX. If you can get a narrow head for the machine, you can get yourself stripey carpets - they look really cool!  :D
Some folk just get the stripes with a brush and carpet cleaner - loads to be found on You-Tube, unfortunately most are American so you have to put up with the drawl but its still good information....
