Timing Belt/Water Pump
« on: 27 August 2019, 03:42:03 PM »
Hi, new to the forum and was hoping to get some advice re my Saab 9-3 1.9 120hp (57 reg/facelift).

I've had the motor for 6 months and absolutely love it. It came with  a FSH and is currently  at 114K. I know that it had a cambelt kit job done at 85K in 2014 at Halfrauds. I contacted  the guys there to check if the water pump  had also been done but that  came back negative.

I'm beginning to think the pump must still be the factory installed one.

I'll be souricing my own parts as I want to be certain that it's the right belts and pump.

I've saw Dayco/Gates/SKF ones online.

Would you guys recommend the best one to go with?

Thanks

J

Welcome! :)

I have no direct experience of the 1.9 diesel engine, but from reading other posts on the various forums. Gates is the only name mentioned as being OK apart from a Saab original one.

Cheers Sgould.

I'll pick up a Gates kit.

Out of curiosity any ideas who the supplied Saab the genuine one?

Thanks

J

Sorry, no!

But what Saab used when building the car at the factory and what Saab Parts supply as "original" these days may be completely different.

Also don't forget that the Saab diesel engine was developed for GM by Fiat and was used by Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Vauxhall, Opel, etc.  Maybe wih some local mods.  So there are possibly other sources of parts too.

Gates have a good reputation across many makes on timing belts etc.

SKF make top notch bearings, so I would have thought they were decent quality too, and another Swedish company (Svenska KullagerFabriken)
