Amp1 upgrade saab 93 2003-2007
« on: 29 March 2019, 12:29:49 PM »
Hi all my saab 93 linear 2005 came with the basic 4 speaker system and i have almost finished the upgrade, installed saab front speakers and dash centre speaker (wiring already in from factory) bought a second hand amp, discovered that the wiring is under the passenger seat but no fibre optic cables in the connector, so downloaded the fitting instructions low and behold there's a pair of fibre optic cables coming from the dashboard and stopping at the foot of the a pillar, so bought a meter of fibre optic cables, connected that in the a pillar into amp1, no laser showing before connection and after,  no comm from tech 2.
Please if know or anyone that has done this to shed more light, is there a missing fibre optic i need to connect to complete the 7 speaker set up. All saab equipment used in this upgrade

On the 7 speaker upgrade, why is position 2 on the amp1 connected to position 2 on the ICM? Surely it should be the reverse position 2 - out of ICM to position 1- input on amp1.

Mistakes in Saab instructions are found from time to time. Usually due to translation errors.  But numbers are usually OK...

If it doesn’t work properly, try swapping the connections?  All the descriptions in the Saab workshop manual state that the signal should go into 1 and out of 2.

Exactly what i interpreted from the optic looping system which doesn't apply to only Saab, 1= in 2= out.

Now the next question is where does the optic light start? that needs to be known in order to add devices to the loop. According to the manual it starts from the ICM and finishes at the ICM, so for a 7 speaker upgrade the Amp1 needs to seat between ICM and EHU, therefore position 1 optic on amp1 needs to go to position 2 on ICM and position 2 on amp1 needs to go to position 1 on EHU, the CD/Changer is untouched because that has a loop back to the ICM from factory.

This now brings me to the next question, once this is connected with the speakers all connected, should the radio, cd etc still come on+ sound apart from the extra 3 speakers connected (until Amp 1 is added) or not?

Sadly, I have no idea.  Our car came with the AMP1 already fitted.

But if the red light can be seen at the EHU after going to the AMP1 and back, then I think you would have a complete loop.  Once the loop is complete, the red light should appear at pin 1 on all the connections, as long as that' the only one disconnected.  At least that what I think.

I have now connected all devices in the order of  2-1, 2-1,2-1,2-1. I have discovered that no light appears at pin 1 of cd, but appears everywhere else, so radio won't come on, could the amp1 be bad and therefore not linking up with the cd, thus not completing the loop.

Let me know what you all think?

If you have them all in the right order of ICM-AMP1-EHU-CD-ICM, then if there is no light at the cable going into the CD, the connection from the EHau, or The EHU itself is faulty.

Yeah connected them in the right order, i am suspecting the amp1 because i bought it second hand from an unknown source. However when i return back to factory settings, there's light on the cd changer and everywhere else, hence why i would rule out the EHU as been defective. I'll try and source a brand new amp1 to test.

Watch this space.

Thanks for the manual aerojon, i have realised my mistake, i was reading the installation manual for convertible M04, instead of My05.
I have now located the green marked fibre optic at the right side  A pillar, so hopefully if my amp1 is working i should go plain Saling from here to finish the upgrade.

Do you have a vert or a saloon as the amp locations are different..MY03 to MY06 is the same MoST system..
