GM pulling the plug on the 9-5 and other technology was the final nail. In many ways, this was very similar to what happened with MG Rover, after BMW pulled the plug, and even took the new models that had been in development away with them.......
Shame that the Saab name vanished from the new car market at that point, and no doubt many people lost their jobs. It's not impossible for a brand to return. Triumph motorcycles today is a different company to that which was around 40 years ago, but is doing well...so in the right hands, and true to the original ethos of the company, it could work. The right hands though, I fear, are not Chinese - they have scan disregard for traditional heritage brand culture, and thrive on plagiarism
