9-3ss rear bumper protector strip
« on: 26 March 2018, 09:10:21 AM »
I noticed a couple of scuffs and scratches on the top of the rear bumper where things have been taken out of the boot and slightly damaged the paint in the past.

I was looking on Ebay for a sort of stick on protection strip to cover this area of the bumper, but all I can find are ones for the estate or convertible, but not the saloon.

On our other car I bought a stainless steel one, but on the 9-3, being black, I'd prefer a black plastic or rubber type, so it doesn't look out of place.

Does anyone know where I could get such a thing?

Had another look around for something like this again. I haven't seen mention of any other 9-3ss owners using anything like this.

I have a chrome type on the rear bumper on our Qashqai, but I think a similar chrome one on a black 9-3 might look naff, so was ideally after a black rubber or plastic one.

Anyone ever fitted such a thing to their own car?

I'm sure I saw something like that come up for sale in these forums some years back - there was a fair discussion about it too. The long and short of it as I recall, was that it simply was pricey item

If you got a cheaper alternative I don't think it would look particularly cheap, but my question would be - what would you glue it on with?
I can almost guarantee that if its sticky-backed it wont stick that well.

I've used THIS STUFF to very successfully bond a rubber cover onto an Austin Seven running board, some stainless steel threshold plates onto the wife's car, and metal strengthening strips to the inside of my MG J2 mudguards.
The last job I used it for was to re-secure some plastic strips that were becoming loose on the roof of my Suzuki Jimny.

(Picture is of the strip removed) It wont easily come off again having used this stuff

Had another look at this one but it says 2007 onwards....and mine's a 2006. Is the bumper that different such that this wouldn't fit?? :0

Saab did a kind of rolled up blind that is fitted at the back of the boot and rolled out over the bumper to protect it. Then rolled back up when you have finished loading.

Steve, in your first post you posted a link to a site on ebay selling RGM sill protectors (the photo in the ebay link is from RGM's website).
I've bought three direct from RGM - rearguards.co.uk - and have been very pleased with the service, product, and price. One was matt black for my OH's red VW Up, a silver one for my silver Octavia, and now a carbon effect one for my metallic black Octavia. It's a British company and do all the work in-house. There was even a handwritten sticker with the name of the person who'd finished the moulding. Yes, on the face of it, fifty quid seems a lot for a piece of plastic, but IMHO you won't get better. IMHO.

Usual disclaimers.
