Tailgate (Boot!) not staying up

2002 estate and recently the boot (or tailgate if you prefer) wont stay up as good as it used to.... is there anything that can be adjusted or replaced to make it stay up or should i start carrying a broom handle to prop it open

Most likely the gas struts have failed, replacements can be had for about £20 each, they're hidden up behind the head lining.

I agree with Audax - thats got to be the gas-struts

Thanks guys, well good to know I can do something about it cause one of these times it's going to knock me out......   :-(   

It's due its 90k service soon (800 miles to go) so see how much garage wants else try it myself
