Engine Breakdown, Engine Oil Blasted Out Near Pulleys
« on: 02 February 2013, 03:14:08 AM »
I had a problem last year where something on the main drive belt on my '97 9000 Aero made bad whining noises when starting, the colder the weather, the louder the whine.

It ended when the idler pulley appeared to sieze, taking the tensioner pulley and serpentine belt with it.

After replacing them all everything was fine, but recently the same/ or similar whine has returned.
Tonight I got a loud repeated clacking sound, a bit like the belt going again, but this time the engine died and it has appeared to shower the pulley end of the engine compartment with oil.
The drive belt and the various pulleys still seem Ok.

Could this be a failed oil pump?
Anyone got any other idea's?

It was too dark tonight to see exactly where the problem lies, will take photo's tomorrow.

Thanks

Eventual diagnosis...

Oil pump appears to have failed causing the turbo to blow. Between them this has emptied all the water and a lot of the oil in one go.
The bottom end also sounds bad.

Game Over  :'(

It will be at Abbot Racing soon if anyone is after Saab 9000 Aero parts

That's sad :(

What plans to replace it?

9-3 ttid  180 :)

Have to be a little more practical (economically) speed was great, but bills for fuel etc were getting out of hand.

Had the 9000 for 12 years so it will be sad to see it go. :'(
