Hi everyone long time no post.

My silver 2.2Tid has been sitting mostly on the drive for the last year with the odd trip to the doctors for me or mum. Mum has developed Alzheimers but that's another story.

Anyway had to pop to the chemist the other day and car had been standing for a few weeks. On first startup a plume of possibly white smoke went past my passenger door. Is this a bad sign, other than that there is no smoke after first startup or startup when warm, usually after it has warmed up just a quick flick of the key is enough to start it up. Is this a bad sign of things to come? There is only 56k on the clock and it has been verified or nothing to worry about?

Saab 9000 (1984-1998) / Selling a 9000
« on: 07 June 2013, 04:35:25 PM »
My dad has just died and I am his executor. He used to drive a black 9000 CSE 2.3 Turbo with scottish leather seats, R reg, taxed and MOT til March next year.

The ABS light is on and clutch a bit stiff with a few marks on bodywork. My job is to get as much for the car as possible. Can anyone suggest the best way to dispose of the car and how much it is realistically worth?

Edit: Miles is 110K I think, need to check.
cheers

Tim

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Windscreen washer fuse keeps blowing.
« on: 31 January 2013, 08:34:00 PM »
Just come on tonight. Pulled the stalk back and pft, no water and wipers stuck halfway up the screen. Got home and checked the fuse and yes it had blown. So replaced and tested, wipers fine but as soon as I pull for water fuse blows. Rear wipe is fine, and there was just a little spurt of water out the jets before the fuse blew. Pump short?

Anyone had any of the new Saabs nicked without the keys? Seems pretty easy for BMW owners according to watchdog. Just wondering if these generation of cars were more difficult than last.

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / 2005 2.2 TiD CEL and loss of power.
« on: 10 August 2012, 11:46:11 PM »
As title really. Went to pick up new pup from breeder, 80 mile round trip and on the way there sudden loss of power on motorway and CEL came on, nothing on SID. Got to breeders and did the deed of buying pup. Engine had cooled off and some power was there but CEL light still on.

As engine warmed up power started to fade and Cruise wouldnt work on motorway. What are the usual suspects, anything I can do myself?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Windscreen washer pump.
« on: 02 August 2012, 08:34:20 PM »
Just been out for a run and needed to clean windscreen. Pulled back on stalk wipers go but no water. Tried several times and nothing. Pressed button for rear window and worked fine with water spraying out. Nothing on dashboard to indicate water empty.

Got home and checked resevoir and seemed half full of water and cleaner. Tried again, again nothing after switching off ignition. Went and had tea, thought this needs a full tummy to sort. After tea topped up resevoir from half full to full and tried again and nothing. Switched off ignition and tried again wipers were going all the time during the attempts to clean screen. This time got a dribble from centre jets then after a second all 6 jets start working.

So i thought wonder if the non return valve on the windscreen jets is hammered. Left for an hour and still working fine so its a puzzle.

Where does the dashboard tell you the resevoir is empty WIS says there is a level sensor.

Pump appears to be at bottom of resevoir so why it wouldn't work when half full is a mystery.

Any ideas?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Nice on corners.
« on: 09 March 2012, 10:19:43 PM »
Was out yesterday in my 2005 9-5 2.2 Tid Estate and have to say I was hoofing it a bit on corners and it clung to the road like a limpet, whereas my old 9000 would fishtail slightly. Admittedly the 9000 although it was an LPT had a little more grunt the ESP seems to be nice on corners making it fast and comfortable. I miss the battery readout when starting giving an idea of battery condition on the 9000 but other than that I am happy with my choice. Any one else find it nice and tight on corners?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Feature or fault?
« on: 04 November 2011, 09:44:44 PM »
I've noticed that when my front Windscreen wipers are on or intermitent and I select reverse gear in my MY05 Estate the rear wiper intermittently wipes without switching it on on the stalk. I like this feature or fault, anyone else notice this?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / 2.2 TiD Fuel Filter
« on: 26 October 2011, 05:26:18 PM »
Looking through the service book, my 54k miles services is coming up. Seems fairly straight forward to do the oil and filter, but what about fuel filter which is due. Seems a lot of Saab tools are needed according to WIS, anyone on here done it or is a job for my indy?

Trollhättan, Sweden: Today, Swedish Automobile N.V. (Swan) announced that it has given notice of termination with immediate effect of the Subscription Agreement of July, 2011 entered into by Swan, Pang Da and Youngman.
Swan took this step in view of the fact that Pang Da and Youngman failed to confirm their commitment to the Subscription Agreement and the transactions on the agreed terms contemplated thereby as well as to explicit and binding agreements made on October 13, 2011 related to providing bridge funding to Saab Automobile AB (Saab Automobile) while in reorganization under Swedish law.

Pang Da and Youngman have presented Swan on October 19 and 22 with certain conditional offers for an alternative transaction for the purchase of 100 percent of the shares in Saab Automobile which are unacceptable to Swan. However, discussions between the parties are ongoing.

« on: 21 October 2011, 09:38:49 PM »

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Best Battery.
« on: 12 October 2011, 06:07:10 PM »
My 9-5 has a Bosch S4 in it so obviously not the factory fit. Manual says 70ah battery but looking at some battery sites they are recommending 100ah batteries for the diesel variant, which as you can imagine are pricey. Any recommendations on capacity and make for a diesel 2.2?

Off-topic chat, Help, Advice, General motoring issues / Tyre Sealant.
« on: 26 September 2011, 09:40:41 PM »
Has anyone tried this product? I may have leaky rims on my car and a rebuild last time cost me £14 just to take off the tyre and re-seal it. Googling finds lots of different opinions on this technology. The one I found was Tyre Protect, which claims it is not a get you home sealant but permanent sealant for tubeless tyres and does not affect tyre balance. (www.tyreprotect.co.uk)

What are peoples thoughts on this product at 65 a throw for 4 tyres I might be better off getting them rebuilt at tyre stop.
