What will they be making? Are they making normal 9-3's to start with whilst they develop the electric cars?

I think that the guys in the factory are just clearing it up ready to build the new line. I think it will be a long time before any cars start being made. There have been no spy shots in the press. And no crash test leaks. They will be building an old 9-3 with all the GM stuff changed. Engine, audio, aircon, etc. and a modified front to meet the newer pedestrian crash protection.

Old 9-3 as in what they were producing when they stopped, not the old old 9-3 as that would no way meet modern standards now. New would have been something based around the phoenix platform.

Nobody knows.  The only info is that the cars are "GM Free".

So, new engine and new audio system/aircon at least.

The audio system had an option to have Kenwood plugged in at dealers recently? and the old units were Fujitsu so I'm not convinced that the system was a GM product, it might have been GM sourced but could well be available from the manufacturer directly. Also all the aircon compressors were Sanden (and to be honest if you were changing engine you'd probably have to use whatever was hooked up on that engine in the first place) and other bits mostly Valeo, none of these companies were GM in the first place!

I think the comment I saw was linked to the GM "signature" dashboard look.

I don't know how they would stand with a "Fiat" diesel engine.

Saab will restart production on Monday as the firm's new owners look to get the carmaker back on track.

The carmaker will restart production of its 9-3 sedan model at its Trollhattan factory in western Sweden.

The firm will initially make a petrol-powered version of the car with the aim of launching an electric version later.

"It's very similar, you can't change or develop very much in a year. We acquired the assets in August last year," Mikael Oestlund, a spokesman for Nevs was quoted as saying by the AFP news agency.

"Our focus has been to get the co-operation up and running with 400 suppliers and ensure the facilities were working."

However, Mr Oestlund said that initial production would be modest.

"We don't want to make promises or forecasts we don't know we can fulfil," he said.

"We are humble and say we'll start the production volume with low figures and be able to increase over time according to the market's demand."
