2005 95 2.2 tid failing injector pump?
« on: 22 March 2019, 12:11:35 PM »
Hi, I've been through the wars with my 2.2 recently. I have 205k on the clock.
I had bad misfires under load and the tech2 pointed to the injector pump.
However, changing the fuel filter solved the problem, the filter was treacle black.

I then had a split inter-cooler hose, ok sorted that.

Now, while cruising at 75mph a gradual hill will trip-out the cruise control, Prior to tripping out she gets a bit juddery, like a slight miss-fire. Under load she is very smokey, black smoke. After several trip-outs of the cruise she goes into a limp mode which allows about 75-80 mph on the flat. A brief stop and restart has her back to nearly full power. I fitted a new air filter, no change.
Is this the fuel pump on the way out.

I'm not that familiar with modern diesels, but black smoke suggests too much fuel, so unlikely to be a fuel problem.  Much more likely that you still have an air leak in the inlet system.  Check all the pipes and the intercooler itself between the airmass meter and the engine.  The intercoolers on the diesels seem vulnerable to bulging and splitting.

Not just the diesels, I had the complete side of the intercooler blow off on an Aero. Major lack of boost.

Thanks, at my indi today.
Faults with the pump, position sensor was one, cant remember the other, indi stated that he only see's these faults when the pump is RIP.
He thinks he could hear a boost leak when we revved the engine.
I suppose its the bike tube job.

Do you know the exact fault? If the sensor was the crank position sensor then it will make the car run like a bag of nails, the ECU can deduce how to run without a CPS signal by taking a secondary signal from the pump but it will run very very rough. Without knowing the exact codes though I can't offer any real help.

Hi, I found another burst pipe, the short inlet to the EGR manifold.
Repaired with Gafa tape and she runs a lot better.
Fuel consumption has improved but she's still not right, on long hills the cruise trips out.
I must have other leaks in the IC system.
Definitely not the pump though.

Thanks for assistance.
