Saab 9-3 2.2 smoke, loss of power issue
« on: 24 June 2012, 04:24:06 PM »
Hi,
I'm posting on behalf of a friend, who on my recommendation bought a saab 9-3.

He's been having a combination of issues that for a more experienced person would help direct us to the issue.

1)  when accelerating the car shoots out puffs of black smoke from the exhaust, it seems okay on idle.

2) The EML turns on and off when it wants.

3) There seems to be a loss of power again this is on and off??

We're at a loss to be honest. Any help would be much appreciated

Check the intercooler and intake pipes for splits and holes.

If that doesn't show up any problems then you'll need to get the fault codes read, cleared, drive the car and read them again. You can get cheap fault code readers for less than £50.

intercooler pipe seems fine, Im guessing we'll have to wait to get the codes read.

If theres anything else we can check let us know, we've been looking today.

cheers

You could remove the EGR valve and give it a good clean, also the sensor on the intake manifold near it. That may help with your problem but guessing at a fix generally isn't helpful as there are several things it could be. I think the real resolution will be with having the codes read but cleaning those 2 things won't hurt.
