NG 9-5 engines - any issues to look out for?
« on: 14 September 2018, 07:46:26 AM »
I frequently read on these pages and other Saab forums/Facebook pages etc about people having problems with 199TiD versions of 9-3ss and OG 9-5s. The petrol engines seem more reliable, but they still have issues with turbos, timing chains etc.

What engines where in the NG 9-5, and where they carry over the engines that were already on the 9-3 OG 9-5?

Or, were they new GM derived units, and if so, what issues did they have?

As NG 9-5s drop in price, they are looking more attractive, but they are also higher mileage, so is there anything we should look out for when buying one? ;)

Nobody replied?

New engines, apart from 2.8 which gained 20PS..

1.9 TiD replaced by 2.0TiD, same output but 160 PS variant not twin scroll like the 1.9 TTiD 160PS 9-3 got from 2011.

2- litre engine an update from the B207R, still same family, but updated.

Both 2.0 and 2.8 petrols known to have chain issues....

TiD reputed to have least isssues.  But as it is the most common variant numerically..Vector TiDs don’t hold their value too well. in spite of the chain issues on the petrols, these, particularly the Aeros, hold their value better..
