ABS warning light
« on: 09 June 2023, 08:45:59 PM »
... is on. Car felt completely normal otherwise. I've done a bit of Googling and among the possible causes seem to be a duff wheel sensor, low brake fluid, or the failure of the unit. I'll check the brake fluid level tomorrow morning but if that's ok am I right to assume that it's ok to use the car with a requisite degree of care?

That looks more than a broken reluctor ring

I would check brake fluid level first, fuses, & then take an exploratory drive, somewhere quiet, to see what happens with gentle, normal & hard braking

Having Tech II would make diagnosis too easy

Thanks Carrera. Checked the fluid level this morning and it was bang on the Upper line. I did actually get an involuntary chance to test hard braking not long after the light came on yesterday when a lorry pulled out on me and it felt completely normal. I also read somewhere that if the ABS unit itself has failed the speedo fails, which it didn't. So I'm thinking / admittedly hoping that it's a sensor / ABS ring.

I had a reluctor ring (NS front) crack following a visit to an interesting pothole a few weeks ago. Tech II will always tell you has gone wrong.

Cheers - yes. The lights went off within minutes of starting the car this morning, stayed off for about 150 miles, then came on again at a fairly random moment. Tech II indeed beckons.
