A bump start due to a flat battery is going to be an interesting concept,

...

Ar least you stand a chance with it being manual!

I remember reading somewhere that you have to get up to 30mph with an automatic.  Quite possibly apocryphal.

As phoenix says, wow.
The MOT history is interesting.  All background stuff, but does the (any) service history show where it's been?  You can also check the MOT station locations on gov.uk if you've got the V5C.

Sorry carrera, can't offer any suggestions, but it's good to read about your efforts to get the car sorted.

Some interesting 96s for sale when you click through the "find a classic Saab for sale" link at the end of the article.

Various fairly reliable web sites say between 70% and 90% of UK water companies are not owned by UK pension funds, so dividends mainly go overseas.  As does a fair chunk of the profits made by the power utilities - e.g. Scottish Power is owned by a Spanish company.

But we all more or less knew this.

That's nothing compared to what EVs are going to do to the sub £1k second hand car market!

In addition to the ever-worsening state of the roads.  Should be classed and taxed as HGVs.

Interior size reduction is ongoing.  It's mostly due to the increase in requirements for crash protection, especially side impact.  Our 9-3 is a bit cramped inside compared with the 9-5, but it almost the same size as the 9-5 outside.  Virtually the same width and only 150mm shorter.

So true, Will.  I was perplexed by the visual and dimensional similarities and differences beween the 9-3 and 9-5 when I changed the former for the latter.  Externally the 9-3 looked much narrower than the 9-5 (to my eyes) but the brochures and a tape measure proved it wasn't that great a difference.  The five years or so later development of the 9-3SS bringing more (?) crash protection and narrower interior space.

Ditto welshwizard's comments.
I've been using Samsung SSDs for over 10 years, never any problems. You'll know SSDs are much faster than spinning drives.  On Amazon and their own website external SSDs are around £100 per 2Tb.
Never look back at prices with regret - I paid over £100 for 500Gb just two years ago, and the same for 250 Gb a cople of years before that.  SSD capacity is very roughly twice the price of HDD, but far less than it used to be and worth it for speed and reliability, though you'd be very unlucky to have a HDD fail these days.
WD and Crucial (more commonly known for their RAM) are worth a look. Toshiba seem to only do HDDs these days.
I've bought from CCL Computers in Bradford many times, great prices and service - I've no connection other than as a customer.

Avoid Currys.  Limited range, overpriced, and I've seen them sell very unsuitable kit to friends and family.

If I do get rid of the 9-5, I will avoid a Skoda.  The nearest dealer is less than a mile away.  They have a terrible reputation locally.

Couple of dealers round here like that.  My nearest (privately owned) gets custom from people who pass their local franchise and travel 50+ miles to get here.  Probably true of all car brands, they're only as good as the the local dealer.  I expect we've all got experience of that.

Seems that Peugeot dealer just wanted your car off his premises, knowing it's unlikely you'll pass his way again.  Terrible way to treat people in trouble.

I forgot to mention the main reason I changed my Karoq for my current A4 Avant - the Karoq was just boring.  Comfortable, fair performance and economy, room for four and luggage for a week, but as forgettable and plain as a fridge.

13
Surprised they didn't have blood group and inside leg measurement to give away.

At least being home, the adrenaline levels won't be so high!

Hi welshwizard, must've been something seriously wrong with that Karoq.  True, it's a big car for either version of the one litre, but should've been much easier on the petrol than that, even fully loaded, whatever the traffic conditions.  Very strange.  Don't judge all Skodas by that experience!  If you ever move from Saab, it's ceertainly a brand to consider.

Meanwhile, Will's still got a fair distance to cover...
