Maybe I'll try some posh diesel but it costs a bunch more round here ... perhaps some Millers Magic Potiion might help and be cheaper.

How about adding 300mls of 2 stroke oil per tankful?

There are a lot of people adding this since sulfur was removed from diesel. My vans turbo actuator sticks if I dont add it. The sulfur was a lubricant like lead was for petrol.

Not tried a cooler temp sensor and the air filter is less than 4000 miles old.

Good call on the temp sensor, would it not show up on the live out put from my code reader?

Yes I replaced the thermostat as that was one of my first thoughts, the gauge did go up a little. It used to run a couple of needle widths below the center but now runs a couple of needle widths above as my old one did. Sadly it made no change to the consumption  :(

The DI is about a year old as I have a receipt for this in the paperwork from a Saab dealer and the stickers would make it appear to be genuine  :)

I will look at getting a new Lambda, where is the best source of these? Would an MOT analyzer show this up as being below spec?

Yes I had thought about the winter/summer thing. My last one would drop a little through the winter but not as much as this one. I dont think my last one ever dropped its average below 28 even when we had snow on the ground.

Just a general question on what actual MPG get from there Aero's

My last car would do high 20's pottering around and on a long run driven with some care it would do high 30's.

The one I have now is identical spec just with a lot lower mileage but I struggle to get mid 20's pottering around and mid 30's on a gentle run.

I have replaced the plugs and when I look at the live data on my code reader all seems fine.

My previous car was a 2002 Estate and the one I have now is a 2004 Estate, both manuals and with a full service history.

Is there something wrong with my present car or was my last one just an exceptional car?

I am aware that cars can vary but I was not expecting such a dramatic difference between two identical cars.

My first thought was maybe the lambda was faulty but it shows a proper response on the live data.

Fitted the 2 missing springs and adjusted the handbrake  ;D

It all seems OK now and hopefully no more sticking handbrake.

My Towbar came back from Bosal today.

It now works properly. Once the key has been turned fully it locks in the remove/refit position. It then is easy to refit because as soon as it find the correct place it locks into place.  It has never done that before.

Well worth the £60.

I am sure I have seen somewhere a method of doing this without removing the subframe on one the Saab Forums. Had a quick look but I could not see it.

You could do one or maybe a couple at a time with this method?

It's good to know that it can be fixed, if necessary.

Yes I agree, I suppose this is what you get when you buy quality kit, I could buy a new fixed towbar for £36 more than I am paying to have mine fixed but the convenience of being able to remove and refit the towbar is well worth it.

I am still amazed as to how helpful they were, he answered the phone almost instantly and explained I will have it back the day after he gets it as they turn them all around same day.

Result

I rung them this morning, spoke to a very helpful chap called Jason.

£60 including the return postage and it will be completely refurbished.

Will get that in the post and let you know the result.

Thanks

I had to fit my removable towbar at the weekend and I removed it today, it was very difficult to remove.

After a lot of fiddling it came out but the it was obvious something was wrong.

I stripped it down and found the lock was partially broken because some of the teeth were missing from the parts that pulls the part in that allows it to be removed  >:(

Do Bosal supply a kit to fix these or will I need to buy a complete new towbar?

You were spot on, no spring on either side. Its funny how it was only one that was affected.

I have ordered new springs so will fit those at the weekend.

I will pull it all apart again and have a look. Its the nearside that seems to be the one causing the trouble. It worked a lot better after some lubrication of the cable so that is why I had presumed that was at fault.
