Indeed, and what a relief to feel cool rain on my face and see green trees and fields at last!

 :-\ OK, a question as I'm a tad confused....

This car is listed in all documentation as a Vector. However, it has an Aero badge on the rear. This has not been added on at a later date as far as I can tell. My neighbour mentioned that there was a Vector-Aero Convertible but I can't find any info on this. The kick-plates on the sills say Vector

Can anyone shed any light on this apparent anomaly?

It's either a Vector or a Aero.  There was a Vector Sport which has some more toys, but there was never a Vector Aero.

What are the first 10 digits of the VIN number?  That will tell you.

Looking at the picture a bit more. And thinking a bit longer.

I'm sure the Aero badge has been added.

All the early Aeros just have "Aero" on the boot.  No engine size.  And the only diesel Aeros were the 1.9 TTiD not the 1.9TiD.

Maybe a previous owner thought that "Aero" meant " convertible" and added what he thought was a missing badge?  Also check if it's had a repair.  Our 1.8t came back from the body shop with a 2.0t badge......

I'm not sure how to deduce the variant from the VIN number per se other than contacting SAAB directly. But, it is:
YS3FF76W36...

But as I say, all documents refer to it as a Vector - even when I put the number into sites such as Go Compare it says it's a Vector.

There is definately no history of accidents/repairs, and the Aero badge doesn't look like it has been added, though I can't prove that.

Y = Northern Europe
S = Sweden
3 = Saab
F = 9-3 Sports
F = 9-3 Vector
7 = Convertible
6 = 6 speed manual
W = 1.9 Diesel, 16 valve
3 = Check digit, [....based on above, to confirm it hasn't been altered!]
6 = Model Year 2006

11th digit will be 1 or 6.  1 = Made in Trollhattan, 6 = Made in Graz, Austria.

Rest is just the chassis serial number.

Aero convertibles normally have a  boot spoiler. I'm fairly sure they also have a different front lower spoiler detail too.

As sgould says, Aero models with the diesel engine don't refer to capacity. They are badged "Aero TTiD" . I reckon it's got to be a badge somone has put on later.

Very many thanks to everyone for your replies. Not seen this link before, so a special 'thank you' for that!

I reckon the badge is probably an addition too.

Most odd though.

...

And different side sills too, according to the "Approved Used" brochure. Still a fine looking motor, whatever the badge.
