Meet Svea...
« on: 06 August 2020, 08:50:49 AM »
On a whim on a Saturday lunchtime (I can't even call it late night drunk shopping!), I bought a 9-3 convertible, picked it up on Monday.

Not so much what I did to my car, but oops I bought another one.
05 9-3 Aero, Nocturn Blue, Auto, 140,000 miles.

Bad bits:
  • some rust on top of the OS rear wing
    wheels very scabby
    drivers window doesn't work
    park assist doesn't work
    drivers door handle snapped off
    leather a bit scabby
bit of whirr from autobox going into D when cold
    cup holder jammed
    radio reception poor
    small coolant leak

Good bits
  • bodywork generally good (apart from rust as above)
    well maintained
    MOT until May next year
    suspension is noise free
    roof in good order
    A/C nice and cold

Anyone want to guess how much?

So, a good summer project to sort out all the little niggles...

£300, dealer trade in, not their type of car.

My diesel is the same colour. I have found that while it never looks dirty, it never looks really clean either, unless I'm polishing it, and the sun is shining at the right angle to pick up the metallic.

I'm delighted to see that someone else has rescue disease  looking forward to the updates

No.  Just a guess.  I haven't looked at car ads for a while...

I thought £300 at first, but added a bit for the soft top.

As I haven't won the sweepstake, I do hope you are going to be pronouncing the cars name as sve-A

I thought £500 at first, and then knocked it down because you obviously saw it as a bargain, but Will wins as he had the first correct answer anyway :)

As I insured it, the book replacement value came up as £2k! Looking on Autotrader etc. you'd expect to pay circa £1200 for an average one and about 50% more for a good one.

Progress so far...

Ordered and fitted new door handle from Saabits
Diagnosed faulty ECU for SPA, eBay replacement ordered, £11
Had a half decent wash and started cleaning up the wheels- Dragons Breath cleaner is really good!
Fixed the drivers door window- switch pack had gunk in it.
Got the cupholder out, replacement ordered.
