Not aware of any electric cars that would be viable for me. Range is always an issue for me as I often do long trips. My 9-5 couldn't get to Aberdeen on one tank, though I wouldn't have to wait overnight for it to charge up instead of a 5 minute refill.
You don't have to charge over night, If you use a Tesla supercharger you would get to about 80% full in 30 minutes, which is around a few hundred miles of range depending on model. Topping off the cells takes much longer but given the network of supercharger stations range wouldn't be a problem. I now know of a few people with a Tesla, even my mate with his Saab 99 turbo is now on the waiting list for a Tesla 3 next year
The Outlander is a bit of a crank really, not sure why people buy them as they can only do 33 miles on electric power which is how they make the 156mpg claim. I exceed 33 miles a day on a regular basis as do most people I know, quite why they didn't make the battery twice the capacity so it can do 66 miles on a charge I don't know as that would seem to be a much better crossover point for most people.
Also, anecdotally I now see around the same number of Tesla as Saab on my daily commute around Cambridgeshire. Keep in mind that I'm not counting hybrids or the Nissan Leafs (which are far more common than Tesla or Saab!) I can see things changing very rapidly towards electric cars. Out of my friends and acquaintances I think about 20% now have a hybrid or electric car. The local BMW dealer is an electric specialist of some type so I very often see i8's driving around and there are a lot of i3's in the village.
