cd changer
« on: 15 July 2011, 02:09:19 PM »
This is my first post on here but an old topic. There's a Saab CD Changer on ebay Pt. No. 400126470 and brand new, still wrapped, in its box. Could anyone tell me if this will play in my 'new' car, Saab 9.5 SE auto 2.3 1999 'S' reg.  Because its new will it only need marrying to my car. I pick the 'new' car up on Thursday and will post pics and thoughts later.  Thx.

The EPC shows it as suitable (for 1998 to 2002 which is where my EPC stops).

You may possibly need a short connecting lead to plug it into the loom. There should be wiring hidden behind the trim. Some have two connectors and they will need a short lead to connect to the player. Some have a single connector which plugs straight into the CD changer. There are some instructions you can download to show how to do the installation. I'll post a link if I find them.

Other than that it should just need to be married to the car. Before the wedding the display will show 'code' if you select it. Your local friendly Saab indie may well perform the ceremony for free.

If you need the connecting lead let me know as I think I have a spare one which came with my player.

Thanks to JB & SG.  Nothings changed, still fast and helpful info. I found the cd lead behind the trim after coming across an item from sgould after I'd had the car for nearly 3 years, hence the search for a cd changer. I'm nearly sure I have the extra short lead but didnt know where it plugged in. I do now.

TBH I'd look at that new Aux in kit that imitiates the changer. While some may marry for free, in making the decision I'd allow £25.

I bought a changer that had to be married. I sold it to another chap. His local indie fitted it with the info I provided!

I also bought an AS1 head unit brand new from Perth Saab on ..ay a while ago.

My local Saab Dealer did have a bit of grief at the ceremony. All was well at the end!

You will have the original loom built in. There is another short bit of loom that you will need to connect.

Check if this is included in the sale.

Reg. the fixing bracket...I have the bracket, just, not the plastic cover

Cattytown.   I've seen some decent feed back on here about that and its worth thinking about but a bit pricey and it only fits the Saab. I could digitise all my home made tapes(100) and cds which would be handier but time consuming.
I do have the short lead but dont get my 'new' car till Thursday so I'll not be able to do anything till then.

I know it isn't cheap, but a changer could end up close. If you also need to buy an MP3 player it is a little different, but if I were buying now, I'd go for the aux. CDs are easily done - decent ripper, and you just set it going. Tapes are where the time would be taken.

Surely you'd just play tapes in the tape deck unless the car has an AS1 in which case you'd rip that out and put in a decent stereo as the first step on an upgrade which would be cheaper than either a changer or aux input?

You've given me plenty of options.I have a cd changer and mp3 player and ok with ripping cd's. I'm getting my 'new' car on Thursday and it only has cd radio, no cassette but I have a spare head unit. Yes, a better quality stereo would be good, plug and play of course, save a lot of faffing.

In that case it has the lowest spec of audio with no SAAB amp, this is actually quite good news as you should be able to just slap in an aftermarket system with some decent speakers and be well on your way.

Thanks for all your views. Between test driving the 'new' car and picking it up a week later when their new car arrived, it started to smoke. We agreed a new price and I had it trailered home 40 miles as I thought it too good to scrap and take a chance I can fix it. If not I should get my money back on spares. I'll start a new topic describing the symptoms.

Just to re-surrect this thread - does the AS3 have an MP3 option as an alternative to me getting the 6CD changer fitted?
I bought a CD player off the bay but do I need the code from that to marry it up to the car or have I shot myself in the foot - if MP3 not an option?THnaks
