Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / MOT passed
« on: 12 June 2017, 04:02:04 PM »
My 9-5 Griffin passed MOT, 252,000 miles and all ok.
I did have an advisory that rear sub frame has some corrosion, I might look at that this Summer.

I'd replace the box, in fact that exactly what I've just done with my MY01 Griffin. I know the rest of the car is ok or I know the bits that are likely not to be ok in the near future ! Cheaper than buying a new car.

Probably not after 250,000 miles !
I've had it almost from new so going to spend a bit of time and money on it in the next week or so.

Just bought a MY06 2 litre Vector Sport to go with my MY01 9-5 Griffin and 9-3 convertible.
I looked at other makes but you get so much more for next to no money with Saab, plus I know where to get Saab bits and pieces for reasonable money.
There seems to be quite an improvement in ride quality between this and the Griffin, although some of that might be down to worn out bushes, bearings and mounts.

Only 128 9-5 Griffins left on the road, including mine which over 247,000 miles on it now.

I agree, replace the heater bypass valve anyway, mine cost about £12, easy to fit. Water was pouring out of mine when I eventually noticed it.

Ah yes Audax, thought it was odd, I didn't view the combined model stats !
My Griffin is on 231,000 miles now, still going strong. I can't seem to find anything I like enough to replace it, not had any problems getting parts for it so far, not that it's needed much.

I must admit I hadn't thought about it, I still see a fair few 9-5s around. However, a quick check on 'How Many Left' shows that there will most likely be fewer than 1,000 9-5s on the road by the new year, and I assume that includes the 400 or so new shape model.

Closest distance from Earth to Moon (Perigree)
MY01 Griffin

Good work, these always make me smile.
My next target is from Earth to the Moon

Yes, looks good, could definitely do with 'tightening up' !

Well she still thinks it's 'impractical' but on the plus side me and the kids love it, why did we ever buy a car with a roof ???
It's like sailing everywhere instead of driving, certainly the handling is similar !

Still a great looking car, it must have seemed very futuristic in 1947.

The old Mercedes E class finally goes this week, Mrs Griffin Dave told me to get a 7 seater MPV to replace it, closest I could find was a MY02 Saab 9-3 convertible, she seems a bit cross at the moment but I know she'll love the Saab once she's got used to the idea.
