Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Tailgate Washer
« on: 07 November 2020, 05:08:08 PM »
Hi All,

I've just acquired a replacement 9-5 estate with a modest mileage but with a few minor niggles that need sorting. One of which is the tailgate washer. On older 9-5's this was an elegant solution which squirted up from the wiper hub: on this later model it's a single jet mounted up at the top of the tailgate which just squirts straight down missing the window. Not sure how to fix this. Replacement parts are like hen's teeth as suppliers just offer the old system, and not sure how much of the tailgate trim I have to fight to get at it.

I alos need to replace the auto gearshift jalousie and I'm summining up the courage. Last time I did one, I lost the circlip dwon into the bowels ...

Happy days!

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Magic Cupholder

Oh no, I've broken my magic cupholder! I assume to replace it unscrews from the back, just have to take SID and the radio out to access?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Hot Box
« on: 25 March 2019, 05:52:00 PM »
Last week we had a run around Holland and Belgium in the Aero Auto. The traffic in Belgium was quite vile, culminating in getting stuck trying to get round Ghent for a couple of hours. The auto box was starting to get a bit twitchy and jerky and telepathy suggets it was getting seriously hot. I'm putting her in for a fluid change (150,000 miles) which might do some good. It's fine on an ordinary run and fine using the paddles. Anybody any views? Apart from "don't go to Belgium" of course.

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Alarm Siren
« on: 10 September 2018, 09:48:05 AM »
On both the 2001 9-5 and the 2006 9-5 I'm getting the odd message and occasional whooping in the night. Time to grovel under the front of the car to get the siren unit out and change the batteries etc. Are these cars likely to have the units which can be easily taken apart or am I going to have problems?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Temperature Gauge Silliness
« on: 07 February 2018, 09:15:47 PM »
This is a 51 reg 9-5 with the 2.0 petrol engine. The temperature barely comes off the bottom and sometimes falls right back and CEL comes on. Is this a thermostat issue or a sender problem? It's dark out there at the moment, where is the sender? My WIS won't work on my new computer.

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / ABS Light

2006 Aero. Occasionally the ABS warning light stays on on starting up. Other times no problem. No obvious brake problems.

Any ideas, chaps?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Car Alarms

On the car ferry one is exhorted to turn off one's car alarm. I have no idea how to do, the manual doesn't help. Any ideas?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Turbocharger
« on: 27 September 2016, 09:38:24 AM »
I'm making a bit of blue smoke on startup and suspect that the turbocharger may be on its way out. It is very difficult to see what is actually down there and I don't want to take her off the road to find out what the turbocharger is. We are 2001 B205E and I suspect its the standard GT1752 but is there any way of confirming this without excavation?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Brake Pads
« on: 03 August 2016, 05:51:40 PM »
Having upgraded from a 2.2tid estate to an auto Aero I'm having a lot of fun. The only odd thing is that the front brakes seem to produce a lot of dust, and the front wheels need frequent cleaning. Is this usual? Any recommendations regarding pads?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Door pull handles
« on: 07 June 2016, 08:34:12 AM »
Trying to remove the interior front door pulls for a bit of refurbishment. Taken out the two plugs and slackened off the two screws within, but door pull still stuck fast. Do I need to apply mighty force or am I missing something?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Aeroation
« on: 01 June 2016, 05:24:54 PM »
I have now substituted the defunct 2.2tid estate for a slightly newer 2.5HOT Aero. It's quite odd, I seem to get places slightly quicker than before ...  :)

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Rear Fog Light
« on: 26 April 2016, 09:53:25 AM »
Just bought myself a 2001 9-5 as a fun runabout, but it has the dreaded "Rear fog light failure". Poking around the wiring where it goes into the boot lid, I see abraded and probably broken strands.

The power of Google suggests this is not uncommon, so I might need to delve in and repair the boot harness from car to boot lid.

Can anybody cast light on best wire to use and what the colour coding is?
