Approaching a milestone
« on: 19 August 2020, 12:43:44 PM »
I only do a couple of thousand miles a year in the Aero at the moment, so when i bought it at the end of 2017, i think it had just under 94k on the clock.

It's now got about 99,960, so I've parked it up and resumed using my 107 for the moment....don't want to miss that magic 100k when it happens :D, which I will do if I just use it for work. Will get back and see I've got 100,005 miles on the clock before I notice :D

In a 9-5 I carefully setup the milometer so it would read 123,456 789.0 (the 789.0 in the current trip part), of course what happened was that a friend who I hadn't seen in several years had a car going into a local garage and wanted to meet up with me and talk to me about a job he had going, this was all going to be OK until unexpectedly his car needed to dropped off a day early and after picking him up and driving with him while engrossed in chat I noticed when we had done 123457 790.3 or something  :-X

I should check the 9-3 as it must be starting to come up for around that mileage now!

Sorry this is so big!  This took a lot of careful planning when I had my 9-5. The final few hundred yards were difficult, crawling round the local housing estate !

I set up my 9-5 to do some different readings.

After 100,000 miles, which I have done in an Austin Metro (!!) - not all mine.  My Austin Montego and Rover 620 both did over 100,000 miles from new.  Then I did 100,000 in my last 9-5 saloon, and now the current car has gone from 10,000 miles to 172,000 miles.

Here's a couple of photos.  Sorry Audax...

Oh, I did the 111111 thing, but I also made sure it was 11°C at the time.  ;D

1234567890 will be in around 5000 miles for me, so, at the rate I'm acquiring mileage right now about 2.5 years from now.  ::)

Yes, I know.

The 111111 was done in a hurry in a gateway off the A5 while I was on my way to a Saab Owners Club AGM in Stoke. I was running late.

The 123456789 one was in France.  We left the autoroute and SWMBO was driving and I was expecting to have to take a quick picture, but we struck lucky and found ourselves in the country on a straight road with a wide long lay-by alongside.  It turned out to be an old airfield!

You can make up for it by aiming for 303,030  303.03.

That was a couple of years ago, I'm well past that. Next potential is 333,333, but as the car is having a rest at the moment it may be some time...

Wifes April 2008 Aero TTid is on 99,933, I'm now not allowed to drive it incase I take it over 100,000.

But it hasn't moved for 3 months..... last topped up with £24 of derv in mid April and has only done 60 miles since.

I did the 222222 think back in 1998 and the 250000 a year later

I've done around 100,000 miles in the 9-5 since I retired.  It's now on 172,000 miles.  If I had carried on working, and kept the car, it would have been around 300,000 miles now...

There's a danger this thread will descend into a conversation like the Yorkshiremen sketch by Monty Python ha ha :D

It isn't originally a Monty Python sketch

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKHFZBUTA4k

On that theme, ah remember when I was a lad wi mi first car I got it with 96,000 miles. I remember stopping it as the mileage counter went properly around the clock to 00000.  Pretty sure I reset the odometer to 000.0 at that point. Getting to 100,000 miles was a milestone back then, the car was 8 years old. No phone pictures for obvious reasons  :)

Not a Saab, but a number of people thought it was a 99
