Jacking points

I wanted to get my 9-3 on axle stands at some point so I can get the wheels off and clean up the underside etc.

The Haynes manual only shows the jacking points on the sills that you use the car's own jack on. It suggests not to use a jack on any other area.

But in order to sit the car on axle stands, I need to jack somewhere else, eg on the front or rear subframes.

Where are the best/safest areas to lift the car with a trolley jack?

I generally jack the front in the centre of the cross member, just at the rear of the black plastic undertray.  There’s a semi-circular cut out in the plastic.

At the rear, tha manual says that you can use the back corners of the floor next to the spare wheel well. One each side, not the middle.

Thanks Will, I'll have to take a look. There was a Youtube video where the guy used a towing eye bracket on the edge of the spare wheel well which didn't look too sturdy to me!!

I’ve never trusted the rear floor pan.  But I frequently use the centre front

Interesting that you can't use the rear subframe.

I assume the front subframe is solidly mounted to the body, but the rear has rubber bushes?

Here’s the plan for the jacking points from the Saab Workshop Manual

I use A mostly, and the normal points at C

At the front I use the front of the chassis rails for the legs on the ramp. Same for the trolley jack. Wishbone pivot points also acceptable, in fact quite suitable for stands

At the rear you can use the trailing arms.. they take the weight of the car in normal use anyway
