Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Re: 9-5 Aero Handling issues
« on: 18 April 2018, 09:59:05 AM »
My previous MOT's had mentioned weeping shocks, but not the latest one.

Going off at a tangent, my latest MOT  mentioned an "oil leak - Engine area" despite never seeing a drop of oil anywhere near the car. I'd have thought it would need to be a noticeable leak to be mentioned on the advisories? Getting looked at in my major service which is coming up in May.

How many miles have the rear shock absorbers done?

Presuming they're original - have checked through the history and can't see that they've ever been done. Car is coming up to 10 years old and just over 74000 miles.

Car booked in for major service plus a good look at the suspension - will be checking over the front wishbone bushes, droplinks, shocks etc. Bet that'll be a couple of quid. :(

I like booting it when leaving the Tolls on the M6 Toll northbound.  8) ;D

Where's the Fawlty emoji when you need it!?

Saab 9-4X (2011 on) / Re: 9-4x Review

I'd forgotten all about the 9-4x. Have seen a few 9-7x's in films but never in the flesh. Shame as it doesn't look too bad.

Like that but will look a lot better with your new Saab centre caps (assuming they fit)!

I had a quote of £800 plus for both of mine on my old 9-3 (partly why I sold it for next to nothing), though they were further gone and probably required new metal.

Miss that car!

Happy Christmas  ;D 8)

Nokian winters on the hill here this morning.  Other stuff abandoned outside the house.  Fortunately didn't block our drive this time.

My CrossClimates were also great in the snow today. Did the journey from one side of the midlands to the other with no issues. Only lost grip when I was being a nob!

Nextbast dash cam does look quite good by the way. Keep meaning to get one.

9-3 in "Filth" with James McAvoy

I've ordered that one I linked to. I'm a luddite with these sorts of things despite working in IT! Main reason I've got it is to clear the CEL if my misfire happens again. I'll let you know how I get on.

Good to hear from you again Steve  8) :D

Thanks for the responses.  8)

Any reason why I shouldn't get something like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06W5V24JN/ref=s9_acsd_simh_hd_bw_b2iFxU7_c_x_w?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-6&pf_rd_r=SBTXK57F3ENZ9JWYZT6Z&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=e83cfe52-c996-54ed-9ca9-222add9e65b6&pf_rd_i=2486228031

I don't want a plug in thing that has to link to your phone, I want a device like this so I can read and clear codes on the device itself.

Wouldn't mind getting a cheap but decent scanner to use that can clear CEL lights.

What would you recommend for my 2008 9-5 Aero auto in the £30 - £80 ish range?

In Support of Saab this was a regional meet whereas the Tesla one was a National meet. Also doesn't help that Saab has been gone for a few years now and Tesla is new and shiny and exciting. I suspect one of those Teslas was worth more than all the Saabs there combined (cheapest is £65k).

Not aware of any electric cars that would be viable for me. Range is always an issue for me as I often do long trips. My 9-5 couldn't get to Aberdeen on one tank, though I wouldn't have to wait overnight for it to charge up instead of a 5 minute refill.

Hybrids are another matter - I'd seriously consider one of those (whilst ignoring the ludicrous mpg claims - eg. Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV - 156.9mpg combined - so if I drive to Scotland doing 56mph, I'll get 156mpg? WhatCar got 47mpg from theirs - not quite 156...).
