LED Tail Light Bulbs
« on: 06 June 2013, 02:05:03 PM »
Has anyone tried fitting some decent rear LED tail lights on a 9-3?

I have a 2008 car and have seen some supposedly CANBus compatible bulbs, though not sure if they truly are.
In theory they should not give a bulb failure warning.

Anyone have any experience with either these are the indicator LED bulbs?

Thanks

I've been researching this for a while. The problem with LED lamps replacing regular lamps is not just about CANBUS but getting equivalent intensity to the standard incandescent ones.

For the red tail lights, the issue is that the narrow spectrum colour of red emitted by the LEDs is rather different to the passband of the red lenses which are designed to work with broad spectrum regular lamps, so you end up with much less light output than you would expect and noticably less than stock.

Indicators fare rather better because of the trend to using clear lenses and coloured lamps, but you're still going to have to pay quite a lot of money to get equivalent brightness e.g. (I haven't tried this one but it looks like it might be OK)
