Luggage Compartment Lights
« on: 18 June 2013, 09:03:17 PM »
I hope fellow members can help me, the luggage compartment lights are permanently on in my 9 3 Sportwagon does anyone know how to access the microswitch or have any suggestions to cure the problem?

Welcome! :)

I've had a look at the wiring diagram and parts list, and I cannot find a separate switch for the door lock.  It seems to be part of the switch itself.

Many Thanks sgould I am grateful for the trouble you have taken.
Am I safe to assume the lights operate from the same switch as the dash warning light and all is integrated into the tailgate lock mechanism? if so it looks as if I have a problem with the switch.

The whole wiring diagram is pretty horrendous when you look at it.  Some bits are linked via the car computer bus.  So the switch doesn't always switch in the current to the lamp.  it sends a message on the computer to the Rear Electrical Centre to tell it to turn on the light.

I'll be able to have another look at the wiring diagram later this evening.  And try and figure out exactly what goes on.  But the rear lighting is via the switch inside the lock.  There just may be some other way the current could get to the lights... it's very complex.

For instance, one of the things the car can do is turn on a tail light if the brake light circuit fails on one side or other.

I've found the wiring diagram and the list of the bits it refers too.

The I-Bus link referred to coming from the two units, is the information link which is one of the computer data buses around the car.

I a bit worried now that I might have mislead you...

There is a separate microswitch in the rear tailgate.  Getting to it is a bit more complex than getting to the lock.  I'm wondering if this is right.  But here goes....

This is the tailgate lock.

The tailgate trim comes off by pulling out the three plastic panels around the top and sides of the window (if necessary) and then there are a couple of screws at the bottom.  Take these out and the manual says " pull the panel straight down".

And this is the microswitch in the tailgate.....

I don't know the 5-door estate,  so I can't identify the detail.  All I can do is copy bits of workshop manual.

Sgould, I am grateful for the trouble you have taken, I will print these off and try to reconcile them with the car, it looks like it is not something to take on in a rush, and I will need sometime to think it through. Once again I am grateful for the trouble you have taken.

Choose a dry day.  Take your time.  That's what I did.  I'd never had that sort of trim off before.  And I didn't have access to a workshop manual then!! :)
