Sorting rust blisters on wheelarches
« on: 05 January 2018, 11:50:04 PM »
I have the beginnings of rust blistering on the rear corner of the wheelarches just above the forward most edge of the rear bumper on both side of the car. I want to nip it in the bud before it gets any worse, so got a quick verbal quote from a local bodyshop this afternoon of £180+vat each side. Tis includes waxoyling the rear of the panel.

Does this sound reasonable? The blistering is quite localised.

Sounds about right for body work, most of the cost of the job is in setup and paint. Did you ask them how much it would cost if you left it and it got worse? There's a good chance that it would still cost the same to sort even if it was 5 times as bad!

I didn't. I'd prefer to stop it now before the panels start to get holed......

It's not the 1970's and the car wasn't built by British Leyland ;D

You have a while yet before it's a problem.

Steady - I work for the remnants of British Leyland.... :D ha ha

No I don't doubt it'll be OK. I'd just like to get it all cleaned up now (or soon). I've battled with rust on several cars we've had in the past (including my 9-5, thanks to a crap insurance bodyshop job on the doors before I had bought car), so I don't fancy doing it all again myself on this car, if I can get a good professional job done at a reasonable price ;)

I had a quote of £800 plus for both of mine on my old 9-3 (partly why I sold it for next to nothing), though they were further gone and probably required new metal.

Miss that car!

That was POP (**** off pricing) in my mind, maybe at £600 but not £800 unless there was more work that I can't see from the photos.
