Title: Car would not lock
Post by: Steve440 on 19 January 2012, 07:34:41 AM
Last night I parked and locked my 2002 Aero and walked across the car park, I then noticed a space almost next door to where we were going so went back to the car and moved it the 300 yds to the other space ( yes I know it was lazy but it was raining when we came out so a 1000 smartie points were earned  ;)).

I tried to lock the car and it would not lock, I got back in and checked the ignition barrel had popped back out and all was OK and tried again several more times.

Got back in the car started it and switched it off again and then after about 10 attempts it locked and chirped on the second go.

Any ideas of why it would not lock? The battery in the fob is only a few months old. What can I do if this happens in future?

You can always lock with the key.  The alarm won't set though.

When this has happened to me it has always been in areas of strong radio use or other electrical interference.  It often happened near big building sites where they all had two-way radios.  And in places where there is an illegal radio transmitter or a man who still uses a CB radio at home.

If it happens a lo in the same place, you can ask the Home Office wireless people to investigate.

Many years ago I had a honda accord that locked itself in the airport car park with the keys inside. The bloke from the aa said it happened often to Honda and I think Toyota cars as a result of interference with control tower frequencies or something like that!
