Hi, I've got a '93 Aero with 180k+ on it, and have recently realized it is in desperate need of attention to it's timing /balance shaft drives (the timing chain tensioner is extended about 20mm!). I had planned on obtaining all needed parts prior to disassembling the car and kicking my wife's car out of the garage. Howevr, I have not been able to find anyone that has the balance shaft kit - it is on back order with no delivery date. Any suggestions? (I don't want to run with the balance shafts bypassed.) Thanks!

Have you tried Scantech?

Welcome Imolared.
I can't advise, but hope you manage to source the parts you need soon ;)

Phoenix,
Thanks for the thought, but it is actually the Scantech kit that most seem to carry and which seems to be unavailable.
Has Steve Lewis got any? He has stock of some Scantech parts. Worth a call.

PFS are listing it, no idea if they are in stock.

At that price it might be cheaper to pick up a good 2.3 engine and transfer the Aero bits on to it if necessary.
Or start ringing round all the specialists and dealers who are left in the UK, someone somewhere may have a kit sat on a shelf that they'd be pleased to get rid of. Also, have you tried euro saab parts direct?
Forgot to mention that I'm in the U.S. I actually tried to order kit from partsforsaabs.com, and had my Visa card declined. I followed up, and the bank told me that pfs was blocked - not sure of reason. Has anyone else experienced such a problem?
Interesting. I've not heard of issues with PFS. You might try contacting Eeuroparts.com. They're out on your end of the continent as well. I just bought a whole pile of bits from them (the third time I've ordered from them) and they are just fantastic to deal with. I don't see that they have the parts listed on their site, but if you contact them, they may be able to source them for you.
Might be worth giving Taliaferro a shout too.

Being in the UK I've not used any US supplier directly, but apart from the two mentioned there is also http://www.stateofnine.com/
State of nine couldn't have been more helpful - I bought a hood cover from them for when my car is laid up for a month or two
(Yankspeak translation: Hood = Convertible roof ;D)

Thanks to all - I'm checking out your suggestions.
You could always remove the the balance chain and not replace it, just will mean that the engine is slightly less smooth on idle. On the plus side the engine revs a bit more freely without it.
If you did this then you must leave the balance shafts in place, its just the drive chain you remove.
