Title: Throttle and Stability Issues
Post by: millster on 25 July 2012, 03:24:37 AM
So I'm sure everyone will remember my having had to tow my car home last week.  I determined it to have been an issue with losing pressure in the fuel system and a replacement of the one-way valve on the fuel pump has increased the reliability of the car as well as resulted in MUCH shorter cranking times both hot and cold.

But... and you knew there had to be a but... it still dies after long drives (just restarts more quickly) and I now have an odd stutter on acceleration, almost as if the engine dies for a short moment and restarts.  It doesn't do it every time, but it's definitely more pronounced than it had been.  In addition, if I quickly "goose" the throttle the engine will drop to about 200RPM, correct to 1500RPM and continue to bounce in a decaying intensity until it settles back at its normal idle.  I'd suspect the IAC in the throttle "goose" behavior, but could it also cause the acceleration stutter and at the extreme end, the complete stalling of the engine?

Easy quick answer is to Swap in a  'proven good' DI cassette
Also it's possible that the Brass tube fitting that the upper AIC rubber hose attaches to has fallen out of the Throttle body.. They do that :-)

DI, Idle control valve or Crank sensor at a guess.

Thanks guys.  The good news is that I have plans to clean the IAC, replace the DI and replace the crank sensor very soon.  The IAC will come first, but the DI and crank pos in the next month (unless one of them croaks before).

I had a similar problem many years back, and I do remember that it was a sensor. It took months to get bad enough before the fault was tracked down. If I remember correctly it was Ian from the old Saabtech who finally figured it out.
