My drivers side mirror got totalled. The motor still functions.
Managed to get a cheap second hand one but it does not have the memory function etc that my Aero has, therefore I need to take the 'new' apart and fit the existing wiring and motor.
Does any body have any instructions/photos?? (2002 remember)
Unfortunately it's also the wrong colour but that will gave to wait for warmer times...
TIA
Mike
WIS diagram perhaps ?
Have never got it to run on Win 7

I have photos on photobucket. Unfortunately BT have removed my Internet connection, so I am on a very poor connection on my phone. I'm not sure if there's enough bandwidth to link to photobucket. I'll see what I can do.
Here are the photos I took of the 2007 mirror. It's all the same sort of thing with the exception of the fixing of the glass to the motor behind it. The 2002 car is a series of plastic hooks around the circle of the motor. To get the 2002 glass off you need to turn the mirror right out. Then use a small thin screwdriver in the join. Turn it to unhook the mirror. After that its the same thing, just slightly different shapes on the housing

Thanks Will,
have started the disassembly and no its not really like your later mode once the glass is off...
have stopped for a breather as am getting annoyed with it and fear I'll trash something..

Ignore the extra bit for the folding mirror motor. Also ignore the wire for the dimming.
Once the glass is off, undo the three screws holding the motor. Remove it. Then there are the four screws that hold the black backing on. Remove that. The painted back is held with four pairs of clips. Earlier cars just had the clips. They didn't hold well so four small self tappers were inserted to keep the "legs" of the clips apart. These might be in place. Later cars just had two screws holding the back on.
You are lucky much of your mirror survived, mine completely disintegrated and the door was slightly twisted. My2009 has all the functions, but I had to do without memory on the replacement unit - or do without auto-dimming...
Has anyone revamped these electric folding mirrors successfully so they fold when button pressed????
One of mine goes half way and the other doesn't budge!
Possibly!!
But they are almost impossible to fix as the wiring goes up a tube through the middle of the folding hinge. The tube is then crimped over at each end to form the hinge pin. There are no connectors to undo, so to attempt a repair you have to find a working mirror and cut out the bits you need and splice them in. At which point it becomes easier to swap over the whole mirror and change the painted back cover.....
The mirror circuit has an electronic box in it that senses the current/voltage and cuts the current if it senses an overload. But the sensor unit is the bit that fails. I tried to look inside one but it is resin filled and solid.
The mirror that folds half way may respond to some lubricant in the hinge. The one that doesn't move will probably need a new sensor, but try some lube and manual assistance first. I suppose you can't rule out a failed folding motor either though.
This is the black box that fails...

The yellow and white wires do not go into the connector. They are soldered directly to the folding motor. The green and red wires go down the middle of the hinge and the connector is too big to go through. All the heating and dimming wires go through the hinge centre too and thy have their own connectors.

The folding motor is hidden in the bulge in the metal casting. It can only be removed if the hinge is dis assembled and the would destroy it!! :(
Thanks Will.
I'll try a little sewing machine oil first and if that doesn't make things better i'll leave it - lol
