Well - the pennies are in and the date is booked.......................
Next Friday I should be grining ear to ear as the car is booked into my main dealers for the Hirsch upgrade.
My car is 55 reg 2.2tid estate so currently 120hp and I think 280Nm torque. The Hirsch remap is 145hp and 330nm so a nice sensible increase with even better fuel economy!
As you may know all my other cars have been tuned by Abbotts but in this instance with Hirsch 30% disc it was too hard to say know at £560!! I know I could get some discount from Abbotts but they are currently £499 +VAT so £1.20 under £600. I would also have a round trip of 3 hrs and approx 120 miles. My main dealer is 6 miles away!
Having said that I had a long chat with Ed Abbott and he's been driving around in one for about 6 months and loves it. His has their remap of 145hp but he's added their hi flow intercooler and sports exhaust with no cat and he reckons that leaves even tuned aero's in mid range but intercooler another 525 + exhaust approx £300 - thats any budget blown but food for thought later. He also reckons his is averaging 48 around the lanes and town and he reahced 59 on tank refill following a long run.........................
SO next weekend look out for cheesy grins all round
Enjoy! :)
I suspect he performance will be better all round, but compared to the petrol Aero it could replicate my experience of a Hirsched 1.8t petrol versus a standard Aero 2.0T. Better at low revs but losing out at higher revs. But, how often in the real world are you driving at high revs?
Exactly Will.
I tend to be a lazy driver sometimes and just change up as soon as I can and let the torque do the rest.
No point revving a diesel to upper limits when a higher gear and lower revs often propel you far quicker.
I found last night that overtaking at about 50 was far better in 5th than 4th. In my aero though it was often fun to hold her in the lowest gear possible and change at last minute just to eek that last drop. I really like the lazy way of the diesel which is un fussed and quicker than you think!

Sorry, just no way. No way *ever* will a tuned 2.2 beat a tuned Aero.
Well all I know is that he's played with it and it turns out something around 440 Nm but not on standard clutch - their special clutch. He's probably done stuff to it that they wouldn't do for customers
Knowing him as well as I do I have no reason to disbelieve him he is afterall a Jaguar Race engineer and has raced Saab for a long long time and held record for fastest normally aspirated car round the Ring! They also supply quite a number of fully race prepd cars for Japan...........................
But then I could be completely wrong but all I can say is he wouldn't drive around in a diesel if it wasn't bl**dy quick. I've sat next to him in a developement car and could easily have left stains in the seat many time over and I'm not afradi of speed
Their page for the remap says 144hp and 330nm so, erm, it's not the 144hp remap that he is running. I call shenanigans on this, I certainly don't believe these claims taking them on face value.
'I should be grining ear to ear as the car is booked into my main dealers for the Hirsch upgrade.' Agreed.
I had mine done last January. I must admit I don't get anything like that fuel consumption but my overall mileage has dropped a lot and shorter trips after a job change.
Yep - really looking forward to it. Since getting the car it has averaged out now to about 45 mpg o/a but on a trip of 40 miles it steaily rose to just over 50 and showed 400 miles in half a tank.
Quino.... Note I put he'd added their own hi flow intercooler, exhaust, de-cat and sports back box but I can't comment o what else he and his technicans cooked up - I know they don't do certain things for customers so who knows.
I'm often amazed by some of these guys with 9000 aero's and 500 or more bhp. What extra have they done...................that we wouldn't normally do or be able to get hold off (legally)

Yes, I saw that but a 145hp ecu upgrade with 330nm and a intercooler and zorst will certainly not boost anything up to the kind of levels you were talking about. That's the context of me saying it's not possible. I'd quite happily believe it if there were other modifications too but almost doubling the torque output of an engine with an ECU mod and a new intercooler and exhaust would be pretty much unheard of.
Thats what I said - I don't know what esle they have done to it. I agree just thos e few items won't do it but they do some weird and wonderful stuff to their race cars that you & I can't have so god knows whats been tinkered with!
Why can't we have it? There's plenty out there that you can get and even develop yourself if you have the time and money... 8)
I've tried my hardest to get one of those trees to grow! I think there must be some sort of probelm with Growth. Tried doing a hedge as well but some Hedge something manager told me it wouldn't work. :)

Sorry Jim, I haven't got a clue what you're referring to here!
Heheh - he's lost me too (Thank goodness - I thought It was just me! ;D)
Money Tree :)
Bingo and try a hedge fund...................
Simples........................eeeek
Oh man just I laughed so much. ;D ;D
Good one Jim
I can laugh and pee myself as much as I like as my wife is a continence advisor for NHS.
As a friend said the other day - why is it called London Underground when 90% of the time my journey was in daylight! :)
I suppose most of your driving is on trunk roads. Or do you occasionally branch off down leafy lanes?
Most of my driving is nearly through fields!
Farmers round here play tricks with you and take hedges out which means roads merge into fields and merge back into roads - that when not covered in crud from sugar beet lorries!
I tell you there's nothing more scary than coming round a corner and being confronted by the 7.3m wide table of a combine harvester crossing the road ahead just exiting one field across to another especially when being driven by farmers wife! oo are
Waiting for the grin. ;D
Have you had the remap yet? If so what are your thoughts? Noticeable difference?
How much is this costing if you don't mind me asking? I enquired about a Hirsch upgrade at my local Saab dealers (for a 1.9TiD) and with a discount, it was still £799 :o
Wait a short while. The 08 cars will probably come into the Hirsch 30% off scheme soon. And try a few dealers.

This price was with a discount. The normal price was around £1000 :o
I might be tempted at £500, though even that seems expensive when I can get 185BHP for £300 from a performance tuner I've used in the past.
£799 is the list price. All they have offered you is free fitting, which is listed at 30 minutes!!

You should wait for the discount and get it for around £550, or less.

They definitely told me that was a discounted price and the original price was more like £1000. Probably telling me porkies. Wasn't entirely comfortable with them in any case, so I took my car to an indie instead of the dealer for the car's recent service. Even in Sheffield I'm struggling for dealers - one I have used in the past has now gone (Gordon Lamb).
Keep trying Kev.
I had hoped to drive away with my upgrade this morning.
In the dealers at 7.59; in went the car and out came computer.
After 30 mins in came grumpy technician (I know him well) and said with a wry grin out loud " I'm afraid I cannot get logged onto their server to download the software"!
He was quite embarrassed as it appears it happened about 3 weeks ago and nothing to do with Saab or Hirsch but the dealers Firewall! IT guy wasn't around and tehcnician was quite pi55ed off that he couldn't do it. He tried 5 pc's around their offices and none would log on to Sweden.
They did though get an e-mail through to Hirsch confirming they had tried and confirming I will still be eligible for the 30% off.
in answer to your question Kev it will be £559.30 = £799 - UK vat = £665.83 less 30% disc of 199.75 = £466.08 + vat = £559.30.
The discount is taken off before VAT added.
Your upgrade shows as being £799 on Hirsch site.
Is your car a 2007 car but 2008 model because it shows thats discounted at bottom of list
http://extranet.hirsch-performance.ch/data/Index/index/market/44/year/7
If that's the case then your dealer should be doing it for the £560 inc like mine.
Mine's a 2008 08 reg..
Buqqer - you'll have to wait just a little while longer but it shouldn't be long.
ABbott's do it for £595 + vat so £714???? If you can't wait
Please sir can I have my Hirsch map................... :( still no joy with their link.
On the plus side I've still got money in the bank and car is running superbly and still averaging around 46mpg using Shell which coincidentally is cheapest diesel around here at 134.9/l
Contact Hirsch and ask what's wrong. If there's nothing wrong, your dealer must have a problem at his end!!
http://www.hirsch-performance.ch/Content.aspx?path=/Contact/ContactRequest
I've always found them to be very prompt in dealing with requests.
The problem is with the dealers network.
It appears they've had it happen before.
The master tech was really really pi55ed off that he couldn't do it last week. He says it's the dealers firewall that's causing it and he knows how to fix it but they won't let him do it and the IT guy is now where to be seen!
Might give them an ultimatum and say if nothing in next couple of days I shall take it to Cox's in Ipswich.
They could either disable the firewall or find a passing 16 year old who will probably be able to edit the firewall settings to allow them to access the Hirsch site. Even a GOG like me could do that!
Really annoying. It appears to be a legacy form GM software that causes it but Cambridge Saab said they could do it this afternoon!!!!!! Cox's Ipswich on Monday but my dealer no idea at the moment.
I offered to do it for them but they declined so I've requested the name of senior management to really really bend their ears - bit like my avatar :)
I had a similar delay when I was getting the Hirsch uprade. The stand-alone Saab dealership moved in with the Vauxhall dealers, (got their own desk in a coner!) and the service manager said the download link had to be routed through the Foxhole system...
At least they kept their own service reception, engineer, and section of the workshop.
