Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / End of the road....
« on: 22 November 2012, 08:42:04 AM »
Well, after 10 years of happy Saab motoring I have just ordered my next car. Sadly not a Saab but a Skoda Superb Elegance.

I will be sad to see the old car go but at 12 years old it is starting to cost too much to run.

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Engine Temp drop
« on: 09 February 2012, 05:27:17 PM »
Had a couple of times when the CEL came on and the Engine Temp indicator needle dropped to the bottom of the scale, everything seems to work OK and the indicator goes back to normal next time the car is started and the CEL goes out a bit later.

Could this be a sensor failing and if so any ideas?

Cheers
Martin

Hi all,

Had SID repaired by simon at Saab Display Repairs, fantastic service,  Sent Monday at 1700 hrs back in car by 0930 this morning and all working again.

I used Simon - sent mine on a Friday and had it back on Monday. He must have received it, repaired it and reposted it all on Saturday morning before the post office closed - now that is service!

Audax

Thanks for that - I did wonder if that may have been the case. I think at one point all 4 wheels were going in different directions  :o

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Warning Lights
« on: 05 February 2012, 02:23:10 PM »
Out this morning in the ice and snow and about 15 minutes into my journey I got a warning ding and the ABS, Brake and TCS lights all went on but no message on the display. Prior to this the TCS had been working hard given the conditions. After another 10 minutes driving I got another ding and the lights went back off and stayed off for the rest of the journey.

Any ideas

Cheers

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Wheel Arch liner problem
« on: 29 December 2011, 01:54:51 PM »
I had to remove my alarm box in a hurry on Boxing Day as the alarm would not stop. I have all the bits to repair it but had a problem with the wheel arch liner. I was able to undo all but two of the fasteners but even with plenty of WD40 the two that were like large plastic nuts still managed to break off with the bold still inside them.  These are located one at the top and the other slightly back and down a bit - if that makes sense.

Am I correct in saying that the bolt part of these two is fixed permanently to the car and it is only the plastic bolt that comes off? If so as mine have broken is there any way to replace them or make good with an alternative fixing?

At the moment the liner seems to be staying in place with the remaining screws holding it in place but not sure I would want to take it on the motorway if there is a chance it could come off.

Any suggestions would be useful

cheers

Martin

Presumably if I hit clear it will remove the message until next time the car is started

I have an issue with my alarm that means the batteries etc. need replaced in the alrm box.

I have ordered the bits I need (along with instructions) but will still need to remove the unit from the nearside wheel arch and although I am OK doing the electronic bit I am not so great on the removal/replacement of the unit. I have a friend who can remove it for me one day and refit it a couple of days later but what I need to know is - can the car be driven without the alarm box fitted during this time or will that cause problems.

I drove through on my yearly pilgrimage from Harrogate to Stornoway and back during the last couple of weeks. The Aero was parked up for 2 hours in Roseburn while we had lunch - does that count? Mind the rest of the time it was just a blur  ;D

If the price they offered my parents for their car is anything to go by I recon about 12k

9-5 Aero Dec 2000 MY01 158k so its old enough for the batteries to be well phooey

Plug in Tech-II and read the fault codes.   ;)
Doh! Never thought of that, I have a cable and software on the laptop that will give me the code next time I get the message. Thanks

The service theft alarm message can also appear for alarm sensor faults too, just be warned it isn't always the backup batteries!

So how can you tell if it is the batteries or a sensor?
