Does the 2.0t 2003 have an SAI pump? I can't remember the symptoms, but its a possibility.

You could tell by looking at the air intake box top left engine bay - if there is a pipe running into the front (about 2 inches in diameter - and therefore it has the SAI system), it might be worth checking the check valve for soot (soot means there could be water in the SAI pump)- its worth doing this even if it isn't the source of the cel.

Sorry to take so long. Yes there is a pipe coming out of the front of the air box. You will have to pardon my ignorance but what is an SIA pump and how does soot and water get in there?

Thanks. I suppose I'm more of a 'lingerer' when I've put the key in. The garage can't view it until next Wednesday :0( They said as there was no error message that it wasnot likely to be a 'major' fault. On that basis it would be ok to carry on driving. Will more damage be caused if I've disconnected the batterie and drive with the light off than if I carry on driving with the light on. Does the light on engage some other protective mechanism?

Hi, 2003, 2.0t Vector, 59,000 or so miles has just started to display an engine warning light has come up on the dash, however there is no error message and the start up checks come back 'OK'. There is no appreciable difference in performance and I have put the fuel cap on and off a few times (as I understand that may have caused it).  Apart from the 'usual' rattles and strange noises, it is a Saab after all, nothing else I can think of to mention.

Can anyone suggest an explanation for this. Especially if it is an easy check / fix :) Thanks in advance. Optimus

Thanks all. I'll get it checked when it next goes in, however as stated the cost of repair maybe far more than the fuel savings. Can anyone shed any light on exactly how badly the fuel consumption differs between the manual transmission and the auto one?  Thanks. Optimus

Forgot to mention the 93 review above talks of a 'combined' reading of 35mpg displaying. I noticed it's a manual, and I think an Aero. Does auto make THAT much of a difference?

Thanks sgould, I forgot to mention mine is also an auto. I'd seen a thread today about a 2003 93 Aero with a fuel sender problem. They were commenting on how many MPG they got and the more of these accounts I've read the more ive thought my fuel use was high. A friend with an auto 728i BMW, P reg I think gets about the same. That just seems wrong for an engine that size on a car that heavy. Although I suspect the story is different around town.

As an aside I understood the tank was a 58Ltr. I've filled up on numerous occasions now, with mikes shown till empty, and have put 59 or possibly even 60ltrs in. That probably makes the MPG even worse. I wouldn't mind if I drove like the wind, but I try and be 'sensible' as it costs so much. I use the cruise control a lot as it seems to keep the boost gauge lower moreof the time.

Thanks. I'd been considering a breakers but was thinking not many would have been scrapped or written off. I'll try the ones you suggest. I also wasn't really sure what the material was so thanks for that too!

Cleaning and Detailing / Tear on door trim

Hi. I've a 2003, 93. I had an accident the other day and tore a small bit of the rubbery fabric, just above the silver strip, on the rear o/s door. Saab say I can't just replace this bit and have to buy a whole door card. Apparently this will cost serious money.

Can anyone suggest a glue or such that will allow me to repair the 'fabric'? I don't want to make it worse by melting it etc or allowing the tear to get worse. I also don't want it to go 'hard' in that area. Ad close to an invisible mend would be my goal, bearing in Ming I'll have to do it and I'm pretty ham fisted.  ;)

Any suggestions? Thanks. Optimus

Hi, I've been wondering about this for a little while now. I have a 2003, 93, 2.0t and I feel the MPG im getting is too low. I use the MPG function on the SID and also run an app on my computer. The app takes in the miles done since the last fuel stop, the number of ltrs put in and the cost per Ltr.

I mainly do a 32 mile round trip to work, it's a mixture of town and A road. When my partner uses it she drives a 10 mile round trip, on town / country roads. Our pottering about is on these town / country roads too. When you mix this all up between fills I'm getting around 300 miles per tank. The SID says I'm getting around 25 / 26 MPG. The computer app gives me around 23mpg as the average and 24. something on the last fill. I feel that if I do all motorway then I'd get around 100 miles from the tank.

Now I know it's not a diesel but I'd have expected to get nearer 30 mpg, especially as those with either an Aero etc quote they get better milage than I'm getting. Now I know from driving an old 900T that you could avoid the turbo by shifting up before the needle got to the red. As this car is a 't' icant do that and was wondering if that was the cause. If not, what is? Oh course if this is 'normal' then I'll try and stop worrying about it and just get on with it. :)

Sorry to have taken so long to get back. Removing the fuse sorted it. Thank you very much for your assistance.

Hi, I pulled into the garage today and re set the trip and the main info. Turned the car off, filled up, and then started up and drove off. Since that stop the 'system cleared' message won't go away. It sits in the middle of the top display on the dash partly obscuring the radio station details. As a result I don't get the DTE or MPG info. I have had a problem with no DTE info for the first 100 miles of a tank (sender problem I think) so not sure if related (I did get the MPG etc info though). Can anyone tell me how to get the correct info displayed again please. Wondered if disconnecting the battery would work. I hope there is a simpler way as I can't find my hammer at the moment ;)
Car is a 93ss 2.0t, 2003. Many thanks.

I'm sorry but I'm not familiour with the 'error' message you are getting.  However on a 900 convertable there was a point in the boot that you fitted a 'crank' into, and could manually wind the hood up or down if the electric motor failed.  I think the crank was with the spare tyre and there was a flap in the boot carpet that hid the insertion point.  Sorry I can't be exact but it was rather a long time ago, and unfortunately not my car.

Easier to check the fluid yourself, I'd have thought.

Thanks again.  On previous cars I've owned its been a pain.  Looks like a trip to my mate, who has all the tools, with my Haynes ;)

Customer Service Desk / Re: Glossary of Saab Terms

Thanks for this, most appreciated.  Would it be possible to add the model 'code' and what it ment in terms of aspiration - normal / high or low pressure turbo and any other relevant information such as its trim ie sporty, comfort etc.  I'm thinking of the letters - GL, GLE, S, Viggen, CSE etc.  I know I don't probably fully appreciate the level of knowledge required, however I'm sure its ratteling around inside all the mods here :)

Thanks.  Would you consider it worth going back to Saab and insisting they check the fluid level?  On the one hand I'm loatheed to spend more mony on checks, however I don't want to destroy my car either.
