Saab 9000 (1984-1998) / Re: Tow bars
« on: 15 February 2013, 07:47:22 PM »
Thanks, I'll try to get stuck in over the weekend.  I bought the car a month ago, but am still banging my shins on the bloody thing far too often so it's coming off!

Saab 9000 (1984-1998) / Rubber mats
« on: 13 February 2013, 08:00:58 PM »
I'm after rubber mats for a 9000.  Genuine Saab ones I presume are NLA, but can anyone recommend any particular aftermarket ones?  There are several sellers on Ebay claiming to have the correct pattern, but some must be better than others.  For instance some mats are sold as 9-3 mats, but are claimed to also fit a 9000.  I can't believe they are all the same pattern in reality?

Saab 9000 (1984-1998) / Tow bars

Is there any magic to removing a tow bar from a 9000?  Or do I just get down there and unbolt it?  I assume the electrics just unplug.  I haven't looked yet as the weather has been so foul and not conducive to lying on my back in the mud, but are there any tips I should be aware of?  Unfortunately it's not the nice easily removable one my last 9000 had.

DCA are very helpful.  I haven't been there for a while as, until last month, I've been Saabless for a few years, but my new 9000 will be going there for work.  I was amazed to discover recently that they now have a website!

I sold my 9-5 (which came after a 9000) to get a Tatra 613, which turned out to be a bit of a mistake for a daily driver.  That was replaced quite quickly by a Bitter SC, which was ace in every way and very practical, did 30,000 miles in that car.

Very rare cars - don't think I've seen either in the flesh - any pics?

Welcome to STT by the way :)

Here you go.  I'll dig out a shot of the 613 engine bay, if I can.  Quad cam, hemi heads, all alloy, air-cooled V8.  In the back.  When I said it was a mistake as a daily driver, I don't mean it was a bad car.  It was a great car, but mine was a bit scruffy, and getting parts for a car that 90% of people haven't heard of (and the other 10% think you meant Tata) was bit tricky.

The Bitter was a wonderful car and I regret selling it now.  Mine was the only RHD 3.9 manual made, of about 20 RHD in all.  The 3.0 became the 3.9 by stroking, not boring, so it was a really torquey motor and great to drive, if a little soft in the twisties.

I was on Saabscene years ago, but haven't really been active much on the Saab fora since selling my 9-5.  Now looking for another 9k so I'm sure I'll be here more :)
