Thanks very much for your detailed reply. I just tried your suggestion (i.e. clicking the boot button on the remote with the ignition on) and sure enough, it shows “2 transponders. 2 remotes” on the SID display. However, the remote does not actually work; when I try to lock or unlock the doors or open the boot with the remote, it doesn't respond. The remote has a fresh battery as well. Odd, yeah?

I have a 2007 9-5 Aero with 187K miles on her. For the most part dead reliable. A few months ago, the ignition key would not come out of the ignition after I shut the car down. At first it was intermittent and I could remove it by restarting the car, putting it back in Park, and trying to remove it again; this usually worked but eventually it got so bad that I would leave the stuck key in the ignition and use the spare key to lock the car. I took it to my mechanic who did a partial fix (he was too busy to do a deep dive that day) which allowed me to remove the key from the ignition and lock/unlock the car (all four doors) using the key itself but not the remote, which did not work any longer.
A couple of days ago I took it back to the shop to get it properly fixed. My mechanic spent 6 hours trying to get to the root of the problem without success. Even after putting it in Park and removing the key from the ignition the "door open" warning chime would keep sounding. He tried swapping out other ignition parts with no luck (he has a yard full of Saabs) and when he was done, he said the next thing he would try would be to order a new shift lever in the hopes that that would fix it. As things stand now, I can only lock and unlock the driver's door with the key; previously, I could lock/unlock all four doors using the key but no longer (so it's actually worse than it was before). I cannot open the trunk at all, either with the remote or by pushing the button in the driver's door because both are on an electrical circuit. Clearly the issue is electrical but he checked all fuses and none are blown. Has anyone had any experience with a similar issue?

New Saab 9-5 (2010 on) / Re: Timeless NG 9-5?
« on: 17 December 2023, 10:56:16 PM »
I have a 2007 9-5 Aero in the so-called "ice blue" color. To this day, I regularly get compliments on it and notes under my wiper saying, "If you ever decide to sell your car, my number is...". I've had her since 2011 and she has been dead reliable although she is, sadly, starting to show her age. As we all are...

New Saab 9-5 (2010 on) / Loud THUNK and rear of car is sitting very low
« on: 17 December 2023, 10:51:46 PM »
My 9-5 has about 177K miles on her. Last night whilst exiting a parking lot, I hear a loud THUNK; it reminded me of the sort of sound you might hear if you drove over a high curb and the curb hit the bottom of the car. When I got home, I noticed that the rear end of the car is sitting much lower than normal. I am bracing myself for what may be a pricey repair. I don't even know if my model has rear shocks (I believe there are shocks in the front). Anyone have any ideas on what may have caused this?

Greetings fellow Saabsters,
I have a 2007 9-5 Aero that has done a yeoman's service for 12.5 years now. My driver's side headlamp is burning out much more frequently than what I would consider normal. It was last changed in early August and it just burned out yet again. A 3-month life span strikes me as much too short. This abnormal frequency has led me to believe that something else is amiss. Has anyone else have this issue and hit on a cause?

The SID unit itself is Part No. 12772937

But if you get it off, see if you can get inside and just replace the speaker.  It's probably not something that a mechanic can do economically though.  It's really a do it yourself option.
*** Any ideas for how I could source the speaker? I would be happy to pay my mechanic his regular rate to install it if I were able to find the speaker for the low price you mentioned. I'm not very handy and I could easily see myself spending an entire frustrating day attempting to replace it (at the end of which it would still not be installed). ***

But I've found a couple of pictures that show the SID.  On the second one you can see the grid of oes that the speaker sits behind.  On the older SIDs that sit in the dashboard, the speaker is a known weak point and in the UK a speaker will be £2 - about $3.

Item 6 is the SID

Fantastic, thank you! Now I just have to locate a speaker.
I will check on Monday to see if they are available from SAABUSA Parts.
I suspect that salvage yards will only want to sell the entire console and not only the speaker.

Greetings fellow 9-5ers. I have a 2007 9-5 Aero. Lovely and dead reliable car that now has approx 142K miles on her.
Recently, I noticed that the turn signal "tick tock" and the park assist sounds are no longer audible. The signals themselves work perfectly, however.
My mechanic tells me that the only option is to replace the entire console, which contains the dead speaker that no longer emits those sounds.
A new console is ridiculous (close to $1000); I might be able to get a salvaged one for $300-$400 which would then cost another two hours of mechanic's labor to install. Has anyone here had the same issue and found a cheaper fix?
Thanks from NY.

I have a 2007 9-5 Aero with approx 130k miles. This morning I started the car twice with no problem. After the second start, I parked and went to my house to retrieve a couple of items. I was away from the car for less than 10 minutes (probably less than 5) and when I tried to re-start it, it would not start. It seemed like the battery was very low but, again, it had started twice with no problem earlier the same morning (the first two starts took place inside of 1 hour). I called AAA road service and they sent a guy to give me a jump. He did a diagnostic and pronounced the battery to be in 100% perfect condition. However, after giving me the jump, he had me turn the car off and, with the ignition turned off, he got a reading indicating that the battery was discharging 3 amps (not sure if it was per minute or per hour, or what). We checked to be sure that no lights or anything were still on and they weren't. The car was turned off and the key was out of the ignition. After the re-charge, I drove 100 miles and the car has now been re-started 3 times and everything seems normal but clearly something is amiss. Any ideas?

Thanks. Yes, I am in the USA. Is it possible that a 9-5 Aero sold in this country does NOT have a fuel filter?

Thanks for the suggestions. I actually asked my mechanic (a Saab specialist) about the fuel filter and he said that my car ('07 9-5 Aero) doesn't have one.

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Peculiar loss of power—no codes
« on: 22 August 2018, 05:50:04 AM »
I am wondering if any of my fellow 9-5 lovers have had a similar experience. I have a 2007 9-5 Aero. It currently has 128K miles on it.
Several months ago, I was on the highway doing about 60mph. I had cruise control on. Suddenly, there was a loss of power, the car vibrated and shuddered, and the "check engine" light came on. It lasted less than 10 seconds and then, with a lurch, acceleration resumed and the car again drove normally. I parked at home and the next morning, upon starting, the check engine light was no longer on. I went to my mechanic who plugged in the code reader but the car showed no codes of any kind. This was months ago (8-10 months I'd guess) and the car has driven normally since. About 2 weeks ago the same thing happened and this time, instead of being solid, the check engine light flashed on and off. Once again, after a few seconds, the car resumed acceleration and the check engine light went off. I again took the car to my mechanic who, again, found no codes. He did say that he had detected some episodes of misfire in the first cylinder (apparently the code reader shows this) and replaced the spark plugs. He said that it was possible that the misfiring due to old plugs had caused of the problem. It is disconcerting, to say the least. I replaced the ignition cassette in July 2017 (I'm sure you all are familiar with that little issue) so I am confident that that is not the cause.
Has anyone else experienced this issue and, if you have, gotten to the bottom of it?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Re: Alternator replacment cost

Thank you. This mechanic is highly reputable and I'm sure will use OEM or equivalent parts.
BTW, I discovered this site which has a lot of useful information: www.repairpal.com

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Alternator replacment cost
« on: 20 August 2017, 04:03:56 PM »
My 2007 9-5 Aero was recently diagnosed as needing its alternator replaced. The price quoted by the mechanic was $600, which strikes me as rather high, so I'd like to hear from others. Does anyone else have experience with the price of an alternator replacement? Thank you all.

Thank you!
