Thanks guys.  Yes, as Paul says, on the gearbox casing.  I haven't actually seen it yet but I can see where it is and the electrical connector..  Probably access from underneath.  I'll try the connector first if I can get it apart.

There have been no symptoms of poor running at all. No indication that the speedo was failing: just didn't work one day.  Maybe that means the sender is ok and it is the speedo end that's failed.

This car is a 2.3 Auto non-turbo.  Maybe it is only the turbo cars that 'hiccup' when this sender fails............

Saab 9000 (1984-1998) / Speedometer sensor location?
« on: 08 January 2012, 12:10:39 PM »
1992 9000 Automatic.

My speedo has stopped working. The parts list shows a sensor and wiring to the speedo head.  The sensor appears in the drawing to be behind the dash but I assume that it must be near the gearbox somewhere.

Anyone know the exact location?

thanks,

Harvey

I too have a 'slight whiff' from the same area on my 1992 CDE so this has prompted me to investigate instead of ignoring it :)
