Hi there could you advise where and at what cost you had your repaired please as my 2011 jobby is failing to read the dvds ?

This may be a blind alley, but I recently had a problem with our house DVD player failing to read disks. After running it with the top off I found the drive motor was failing. (What is the world coming to? I paid £30 for it 7 years ago and it's packing up already.  ) I had another one which wasn't as good on the picture output and decided to try a transplant of the mechanism. Turned out to be incompatible, but I found that the drive motor could be swapped - it just needed the power leads soldering on. This solved the problem, so it might be worth investigating this first rather than assuming it's the laser.

I'm not sure how you could get to see inside whilst it is powered, but I also found that the failing motor would stop almost immediately, whereas the good motors spin on for a while with a disk on them. So you might be able to check for the bearing seizing up if you can figure a way to hand spin a disk on the drive motor.

Its a great car with Hirsch edu etc and love it but think i will find a repairer here in UK to check it out and advise the cost, at that point i can either pay or scrap it. Can anybody recommend a trustworthy repairer ?

If the whole touch screen doesn't work, it maybe that they have dislodged a ribbon or connector in there when they did the work.  How long between the new laser and the fault occurring?

If it was me, I would be inside the unit having a quick look.  when i took my Denso unit apart on the 9-5, I marked all the screws and their holes with different coloured permanent markers.  There were so many.....
