Been a rollercoaster of a few days for me... Just needed to hear an objective opinion, before I went shelling out cash or working the finances. Thanks for the replies.

Fingers crossed, that's what it is. Just brought my first child home from the hospital yesterday and could really do without a big expense. That was my first thought when it happened. Been slipping in second for a while now.

No mate.. the engine revs jump without a corresponding increase in power. Could be pressure escaping somewhere. If I ease back the power and build up gradually there is no noticeable difference. It's only under moderate/hard acceleration... It feels like something somewhere between the engine and the wheels "let's go". I haven't had the guts (had the good sense?) to push it and see what happens. The minute it happens my instinct is to let off the acceleration and build it up slowly. There's no CEL showing.

My car is a 2002 95 2.0t... while returning from a long journey the other day I noticed that the revs jump quickly from 2000 to 3000 RPM under hard throttle, without any increase in power. It began while driving in 5th gear, but I noticed afterwards that it happens when trying to accelarate quickly through all gears. There is normal power up to a little over 2000 RPM then it jumps quickly to a little over 3000 without any acceleration. The car behaves normally the rest of the time, and only acts like this when I try to put it under heavy load. Any ideas of possible culprits would be much appreciated.

Sorry, meant to say he removed the mesh. There's no oil light on so hopefully there's no damage to the pump. It's still driving perfectly, although going to have to get it sorted before I do any driving. Any ideas where I might get some replacement mesh?

I bought a 02 Saab 9-5 2.0t a few months ago. This morning it started a  faint whining noise from cold. After doing some research on the net I came across the "sludge" issue. I phoned the previous owner to ask had he used synthetic oil in it, and he said that he had. Unforunately, he said that before he sold it he had dropped the sump and removed the oil pick-up strainer (as in, gone completely). What are the possible implications of this? As the engine can't be starved of oil from a blocked strainer, could impurities in the oil be collecting and clogging somewhere else (possibly a more sinister place)?

At the moment, there is no loss of power and it's driving perfectly. There's no warning lights on the dash. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much Audax, they're the ones alright. Should have searched tailGATE lights I think. Niggling little things like that really take away from a car I think. Just ordered them.

Hi there, I have a 2002 9-5 estate 2.0t Arc. I noticed this morning that the left hand side tail-light cover panel (inside the tailgate/hatch) is missing. Must have fallen off when opening the boot somewhere, not in the locked position. Does anyone know where I might get a replacement or possibly have a part number (if there is one)? It seems like a trivial thing, but the car is pristine and that sort of thing will bug me every time I open the boot. Have tried Googleing any number of key-words and so far no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
