Aero now sold, a gentleman with good taste is planning to collect it on Monday.
I'll direct him to this excellent forum if he doesn't know about it already...

I've taken a few more pics and done a formal advert in the 'for sale' section, please take a look if there's room for a nice automatic Aero in your life  :)

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Soon to be sold, my 9-5 Aero estate

I'll do a proper posting in the For Sale section once it stops raining and I can get some pretty pictures done, but thought I'd give you a 'heads up' that my 2002 Auto Estate will soon be looking for a new home.

It's in good nick, having had a gentle life. It is on 91k miles, has always had fully synthetic oil, and I'm just the second owner, having owned it nearly 7 years.

It has all the usual fancy Aero toys, and everything works, apart from an occasional 'service theft alarm' warning. MOTd till next summer- comprehensive service history.

I'm in Somerset, drop me a PM is you'd like any further details.

I did this on the 'seeing as I'm in there' principle when I replaced rear pads and discs.

It was fairly straightforward, but I seem to recall wishing I had another pair of hands when re-installing. A helper would be, ... well, helpful.

For super cheap graphite, you can dust some powdered pencil 'lead' into the slot. Use a soft pencil and don't get any wood shavings in!

New to me too, I will file that nugget away for possible future use! Thanks!

I've just fixed a 'parking assist failure' message that had been coming up every time I selected reverse. A new (= second-hand replacement) sensor has done the trick, using the 'replace each of the currently fitted sensors in turn' method, fortunately it came good on the second try.

Pretty straightforward - I had to remove mine to change a headlight bulb! They're heavier than you think, and watch out for shorting out the terminals with a carelessly-placed spanner!

Yesterday I got the vacuum out and gave the cabin a good going-over. Does anyone think like me that the car runs better when it's all clean inside?

Of course it does- less weight to be carried around!

Cleaning grime from the normally-hidden edges of the doors obviously has the same benefit  :)

Yes, thanks for that Colly, I've obtained a similar Vectra spring from my Vauxhall dealer (Saab's too far and they weren't much use on the phone either). Spring duly  fitted, and new tyre booked for fitting tomorrow, so the day after that I should have a shiny new MOT!

OK, to answer my own question just now, it's NOT the samespring! What do I ask for at the parts counter?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Handbrake spring?
« on: 10 April 2013, 10:23:47 AM »
My 9-5 failed its MOT for the sake of a broken spring on the nearside handbrake cable (visible from underneath with wheel still on the car, (looking up)- not the springs that act directly on the handbrake shoes).

I'm not sure of what to be seaching for by way of a replacement. It *looks* like the same spring as one of the four that act directly on the handbrake shoes inside the brake disc- can anyone confirm this for sure at all?

Many thanks!

Fab- your improved mpg will help in paying for the work you've done so far!

I replaced mine (with a gen Saab part) 3 or 4 years ago. It wasn't hard to do, but the replacement is already looking less than A1. They would appear to be a consumable item, cosmetically!

Note to self- use some Amorall type product on it in future...

Usually some 'extraction tools' available on that 'well known auction website' if you don't mind waiting for the post. That's how I got mine and they do the job.
