Completely agree. If ever I have a job that needs doing on my 9-5 that I can't do myself (even with the help of the awesome folks on here) I'll be taking it to Dawid without hesitation. Look no further for he is he for whom you seeketh.

Unless it's at the back of the head unit then there's no aux in on my system.

I know this is an old thread started by me but it was only last week that I tried burning an MP3 CD and playing it in the main head unit. It only partially worked in so much as it only detected a few of the folders and those that it did detect seemed out of step IE the name of the folder (the album name) didn't correspond to the tracks. There were no nested folders, just the CD root with 5 folders and the tracks contained therein. Has anyone else noticed odd behavior like this?

Spot the numpty!

I had a spare 15mins this evening so I jacked up front driver's side and removed the wheel.

What do I see? Well I'll tell you.

I see that I was an impatient numpty relying on brute force and ignorance when replacing the liner as the part that goes over the CV joint was bent downwards and was rubbing on the CV joint! I removed it, replaced it properly and all seems good again.

Bloomin' numpty!

Strange thing... Since doing the sump drop a few days ago there is now an occasional odd squeaking, almost honking sound, most noticeably when turning left. I'm wondering if it could be the exhaust mounts rubbing a bit and will investigate further at the weekend but could having the car up on axle stands for about 7hrs have aggravated something like a dodgy shock or wheel bearing? Even though it was on stands there were bricks under the front wheels too (safety first!).

Perhaps it's the wheel liner/under cover that I removed.

Thanks to all the helpful info on these forums and a few other sites (and my mate, Dan) I successfully completed my first sump drop today!

It was a long day but it went well. Amazingly the sump came out easily without the need to move the transmission. It was also pretty clean with no sludging but I'm still glad I did it just to be sure.

Here's how clean it was before I put it back on.

Thanks for all these suggestions, folks. I'll start to look around but I guess the first thing I've got to look into is an actual towbar!

Hi, all.

Do any of you have any suggestions for bike racks for an estate 9-5 please? I'm not sure whether to go with roof mounted or boot mounted (if that's even an option). At the moment it's for 2 adult bikes and 1 kids bike.

I can sympathise. My hands are very prone to eczema and it's not just irritating - it can be debilitating!

Another question... If I can't find out what brake fluid the garage used to refill the system 6 months ago am I safe to top up with any brake fluid as long as it's the correct DOT or is mixing brake fluids a strict no-no?

10
The ones I've been looking at are of the non-return valve type.

11
Well if the right way is to let the excess fluid out through the bleed nipples then I'll get looking into some of those "one-man brake bleeding kits".

Thanks folks.

12
I always like to have a go at doing the more straightforward jobs myself but I always worry when it comes to the brakes. If I loosen the bleed nipples to let out the excess fluid when I push the caliper back is there any danger I will get air into the system?

I'll be swapping back to my normal, non-winter tyres and wheels shortly and will be checking the brake pads and disks in the process as I suspect that, following my discovery of Bosch spark plugs in my 2.3T engine from the last service, they might be patent parts as opposed to genuine Saab parts. I have some spare EBC Red Stuff pads for the front that I'll use if that is the case but I have a quick question...

Is it OK to do what I thought was the usual trick and loosen/take off the brake fluid cap for when I push the pistons back into the calipers or, as the Haynes manual suggests, could this damage the system?

Whenever we get back from a trip my 2 year old son has to have his turn "driving" the car and, because I can't sit in the passenger seat on account of my eldest son's car seat, I opt to sit in the back to keep an eye on what the little monkey is pressing, etc. Even though the car is parked its still clear that it's a pleasant place to be on a journey.

Thanks for the input, folks. I've pretty much made up my mind to let the experts take care of it but may actually claim on my insurance for it. Having worked in insurance for many years I'll make a few checks first as what this will cost me in the long run Vs dipping into my own pockets.
