RETRO-FITTING FLOOR LIGHTS
« on: 06 April 2013, 04:44:28 PM »
Has anyone ever attempted to retro-fit floor lamps to their 9-5?  I assume that the connections must be on the wiring loom as I have successfully retro fitted cruise control and the brake and clutch switches were already in place so I am assuming the the wiring loom was the same for all trim levels. I can see no sign of them but at my age working upside down is not very easy!

I have had lights in the front footwells and under the doors of all three of my 9-5's.  I thought all the cars had them.

If you undo the four screws under the edge of the cardboard shelf and pull it back to allow the front to drop, it will only be held by the wires on the lamp which clips into the cardboard.

Mine is a Linear and I suppose the lack of floor lights was part of the lower spec. By cardboard shelf I assume you mean the plastic panel underneath the glove box.  Strange thing is it looks nothing like the part shown in the EPC.  I have removed this and according to the WIS the wiring for the floor floor lamps comes off a connection block in the 'A' pillar but I can see no sign of them! Lots of bundles of wires though!
I have always believed that manufacturers fitted the same wiring loom to all specs and just left out the bits they supplied power to.
All because I thought SWMBO would appreciate some extra light when getting in.....or rummaging in her handbag!

The two front floor lamps are connected to pin 13 on the 80 pin connector on the A pillar. That's the middle of the three big connectors. Wire in is green/red.  And both wires to the front lamps are green/red and share the same pin.

But a lot of the courtesy lighting seems to use green/red.

Thanks Will, found the connector and guess what!  No green/red wire coming from pin 13. Far too much trouble at the moment to contemplate adding the wires in but at least I now have spare puddle lights!

Like collywobble said, you don't get them on linears, it's probably the main reason that I wouldn't want to have linear spec!

This being my first venture into Saab ownership the trim specification was not the over riding factor in purchasing the car. Also being a long time drinker from the black pump it had to have a diesel engine.

I am only glad I didn't go for the 3.0 TiD V6 engined 9-5!

Interested in doing this too. My Aero (now crushed) had great interior ambience at night in the cabin. It would be great to get them going in the Linear Wagon. Can you piggy back the circuit from the puddle lights in the doors to the kick panels?

Somewhat surprisingly, the front floor lights are fed from the connector in the front roof light.  These are fed from a pin on the DICE.

The door puddle lights sre fed from another DICE pin.  And a third pin on the DICE feeds the glovebox light and vanity mirror lights.
