Tension Pulley 3.0V6
« on: 05 July 2013, 06:53:46 PM »
Hi All,

Have had horrid squeeling and rumbling coming from Aux belt end for a week now. Shuts up with WD40 but not for long. Hoping its the Tension Pulley as is cheapest option. New one on order. Have done about 600 miles on it tho and getting nervous using car now. Part is due on monday. My question is do they fail totally and risk causing damage or just make a din? I need to use car all weekend.

thanks for any reassurance

Usually they fail without making much of a noise at all in the first place. I really wouldn't use the car and instead would sit at home in the garden enjoying the weather, you're just tempting fate really!

Hi Audax,

Slightly grumpy, just replaced belt tensioner pulley and still get noise once engine is warm. Sure its not Alternator or AC pump so looking at the water pump possibly. Further investigation from underneath is required.

Now that does suck  :-\

I do seem to recall replacing a couple of power steering pumps on the V6's could it be that?

Hi Audax,

Tension pulley was noisy so job done. I think your right PS pump does seem to be where noise is coming from now. Passed MOT today, gave it good squirt of WD40 before test. Worked.
