Clive Attowe is very good but thankfully I do know one of the mechanics at Thurlow Nunn who used to work for Robert Holden then I think he got pushed out when Paul Brown joined from Thurlow.

Nobody got pushed out from Robert's when Paul joined. A couple of people had joined and left again in the preceding years but none of them were Saab trained or that experienced in solving odd or modern problems.

What amazes me is the hundreds of miles I've just done on motorways after a full service when they also did the fuel treatment system that was on offer (Bioklenz) and this has occurred. Why has it only just happened when I've had the car since November and had no problems???

Because DPF's are flawed, even when they claim to be clean they aren't.... you could try thrashing it and see what happens, it's unlikely to cause any problem apart from maybe putting the light back on in which case you're no worse off than when you started.

The guy at Thurlow Nunn had been at Roberts for years and I met him back in 90's when I bought my first 9000 from him at his old garage. This chap often worked on my cars.

I know who you mean he left Robert sometime around 2010, Paul started with Robert quite some time after that, there was a couple of other guys in between.

Just spoken to the chap at Thurlow Nunn and he'll plug into TechII and read codes if light comes on again and he won't charge me for doing it as he's also going to re-seat my passenger side xenon bulb which has slight vibration. He fixed drivers side but at time passenger seemed ok.

He said he'd one one or two DPF regens on 9-3's but not a 9-5 for a little while but agrees not as many of these around as the 9-3. He also said as mine has had some good runs it could also be a sensor or even a tiny split in a hose but at least he has an idea what he's looking for - so that's good for me and he know's I'm particular. I said should I get a manual and he said why? He said it doesn't make a lot of difference really but he often finds people are lazier with manual and change up a lot earlier than an auto will...........swings and roundabouts etc. he did agree try a blast down A11 to Attleborough in 4th gear when car was warm and see if I can get it to chuck smoke out like once before....................................

If you got a manual you'd most likely end up needing to replace the DMF and clutch at some point...

Now that was interesting........................ ::)

Reset EML and light stayed off for a while but then re-appeared so decided to book in to have it checked on TECHII. All fine for that but car still drove all beit a little hesitant at time when more oomph needed.

Just been up to the coast to a job and thought when cars warmed up I drive along in 40 zones in 3rd gear locked up to 50 and then above that only 4th. My drive through the country was for about 35 mins but all the while the revs were kept above 2k in fact between 2500 - 3500 and you could smell/feel the car getting hot but needle still sat bang on 9 o'clock location. I then got that very slight kerosene smell and thought - oh it's going through a re-gen so I'll take the longer route and hang on in and see what happens.

I arrived at site with light still on and thought 'oh well - never mind - into garage'. Survey took about 2 hours; started car and light was gone. It ran as smooth as can be and revved to red line in sport mode and economy started going up so perhaps it has just solved it's own problem because no matter how hard I boot it she flies with no hiccups.

Just for piece of mind I'll keep appointment booked as light still needs sorting but will see how things go - only Shell going in now and every other tank will be V Power!

Sounds like it finally regenerated OK although getting a manual regeneration done now may help on top of that. The reason for the heat but the needle not moving is that the combustion is generating heat into the exhaust system which gets very hot. I once did a regen on a car with a maptun or hirsch sports exhaust system fitted, when the car turned up hot you couldn't see the twin tailpipes sticking more than 1cm behind the bumper, while the regen was running you could see about 6 or 7cm of exhaust tailpipe on each side!

I'll see how I go but they'll charge at least half an hour to regen manually unless they'll let it happen whilst he does my headlamp on passenger side - I wonder???

I didn't clear the message this time so I assume it has stored it and can be read when TechII connected still. At least I'll know that's all it was. I also reckon I need the front leveller and loom now as headlamps keep twitching up and down occassionally and won't always settle and then light comes on dash and then goes away. Hopefully it's only the front as I've heard that's the most prone. £121 for both parts and about 15 mins fitting

Hmmmmm......................... mad panic dash down A11 to fix my lads wipers on his fiesta (On his way back to Bournemouth in horrible storm and spindle loose) and although car was running fine there seemed the occasional hesitation when accelerating gently? not quite sure what it is or why. No codes thrown up except the old 1901 before light went out before........................puzzled. Fuel economy was ok and creeping up. She had a good fast run (sorry officer) down the Theford and back so enough to have a good clear out.

It felt like the same as when car is changing up in gear on auto if that makes sense??
