I don't know enough about diesels these days to talk about particular parts, but is there diaphragm or hose somewhere that is split and ''trumpeting"?

Really pee'd off now though - what's the chances of it being turbo to be honest????????

It could be, my utter guess at this point would still be one of the cam belt pulleys or water pump, given it's that or the turbo whichever you want to try first. One other really off the wall suggestion would be a faulty injector but when I did see that particular problem it pumped fuel out over the top of the engine!

Oh, and saying that I think that the high pressure fuel pump is driven from the cam belt, that has spinning parts in it, maybe that could be it?

But the noise is loud and sounds like the old fan belt noise. There's no sound from cambelt cover using stethoscope Will.

I had a thought - could it be the air con needs re-gassing to put lubricant in compressor bearings?? Would that make the noise?

Jim, FWIW - my petrol (I know yours is diesel) 9-5 aircon never made noises like this when out of gas, and it lost the gas three times.

Definate screeching noise like old fan belt noise Will but it is sounding a little more like the turbo now as it doesn't happen under light pressure on pedal.

Thanks Geoff - at least we know it's not compressor as took belt off completely and noise was still there.

Pretty sure nothing to do with water pump as it's high up in engine..................... the hunt goes on but GAP turbo's say take it off and send back and they'll check it - yeh another 4 hours labour! Thank god it's not at main dealers and only 38 an hour +VAT

All genuine Saab parts come with a warranty of two years, unless something changed?

Ok - I know have some real investigation as the turbo is fine but covered in oil. It appears there must be some sort of blockage somewhere?

The oil breather canister was replaced in December when the turbo was fitted but what other pipes etc could be causing this pressure?? The main intercooler pipe, top hose to right of engine and air feed pipe recently replaced so what else chaps??????

Kink in the oil return pipe from the turbo? When you say it's covered in oil, which side of the turbo?

What we did find is a vast amount of oil spread over the Turbo . What we believe is that you have a blockage somewhere on the engine and The blockage as caused back pressure forcing the oil out of the Turbo and cause also a whisting sound.

This is what they have said in an e-mail back to me. We have replaced the oil supply and return pipes with new genuine Saab parts so they shouldn't have caused the problem.

The guys who did my DPF have said once turbo is back on car they'll have it and do a full diagnosis on their rolling road and see if they can resolve the issue. They'll do it FOC and if I take it i can have an ogle round their race car - which I think if I remember is a Cobra!!! he says dribbling.

Then when sorted it goes - I already have my eyes on a 2007 petrol Subaru Legacy. 2.0 non turbo with 165hp which is actually de-tuned to come to UK as original in Japan has 190hp as standard and the guys that did DPF say they can get it back to the 190 plus a bit and improve mpg - they do loads of Subaru and say the 2.0 is bomb proof and can easily take 450hp.................190 will do me with loads more torque.

All does depend on how much I get for the 9-5 as apart from this issue it's in top condition!

Not really sure what to suggest, checked the filter and housing? Also there's a pressure relief valve... Other than that bad installation or a faulty turbo and they are being less than honest. I quite simply don't know what to suggest from here! It really doesn't sound like a straight forward problem to resolve though!

Well car is up and running again and no noises!!!!!! Well just a slight whoosh noise when turbo on full song but nothing else and she drives wonderfully.

When I picked the car up the garage said all's running fine but the turbo they received back was not the one they sent that had been supposedly cleaned and returned. Rather odd really. Why would you say all about the oil in turbo and ask if I wanted reassembled and sent back and yet you supply another one???? To me that smells fishy???? It sort of says there was a problem but they didn't want to admit it??

Only one down side to all this is a scratch has appeared on the bonnet near front as though something has dropped on it. Trouble is I can't prove it wasn't there when car went in 10 days ago but so far so good and car goes even better...................but watch this space!!!
