Code readers
« on: 17 July 2011, 09:35:26 AM »
Can anyone recommend a good (quality) OBD code reader that would be suitable for my 2006 93 150 TiD Conv'?

I'm a bit hesitant about what I'm buying on eBay in case it isn't totally compatible, and have heard that these tools can mess the system up.
I'm prepared to pay a bit more for quality and maybe a feature that explains the code rather than having to flick through a code book.

I think I have the CAN-BUS OBDII socket but not entirely sure, so if someone could clarify this for me (as I'm o'seas away from car at moment) I would be grateful.

Also, is it worthwhile me getting an OBD log tool?

Many thanks in advance!

If you have a laptop then I'd buy an ELM interface and use some freeware.

Many thanks for that pointer. I just looked at these and was surprised at the differing range of prices - (eBay) approximately £14 - £70

eBay LINK#1

eBay LINK#2
These prices get me a little suspicious and confused, and suggest eBay may not be the best place to source one.

I take it that these will do the job of code-reader and give a running log as well?

From what I can see, the first includes software, the second doesn't. However £50 will get you some very powerful OBD software!

I'd go with the second and use some freeware- I commented about it here. Some support graphical logs, others just give instantaneous values.
